Personally PAM would be my very last choice. any of @Chinatown and @lual above recommendations would be better.

Ticket is 5 years old - hopefully it was less than 15 over - prison was over a decade, I don't see a problem.

If your goal is to go O/O - a year or two in the industry will give you a good base of knowledge, start examining your job and treat it as if you owned it.

Oh - one more thing, start driving 5 below the speed limit EVERYWHERE. The amount of guys that go to CDL school and then get 20+ mph over speeding tickets and sink their chances is amazing.

    Good luck!

Definitely worth considering if you are in as good of shape as you stated. Get a year of experience, then try for Martin Brower (they do foodservice for Mickey D's and Chick fil A, among others). One of the better paying gigs in trucking, at least for as long as your body can handle it...

Update, Pam is getting with safety and said I should know within the next 24:00 - 48:00 if I am good to go. I am also applying with Labbat Foot Services.

I've read a lot of ####### stories about safety, so not much faith there. But I feel they should overlook the charges being so old, and lastly, being a tree climber you know I have an eye for safety because it's my life on the line. I'm use to double checking every move I make while in trees.

My previous convictions, 2008 was evading or eluding police, latter conviction was possession > 200 grams < 5 lbs with intent to deliver. (Got pulled over driving a hot car from Mexico.)

With that said, those days are long gone and I pray that they'll accept me after going a decade of having no legal issues, having a child, and being grown up past what my background shows.

Either way, my body is getting tired from climbing and I'm looking to transition to CDL either way. If they decline me, my next step is to invest $15k on a car hauler or flatbed, $300.00 on a DOT# and FMCSA Authority, and put 5-6k down for the first 6 months of insurance, and go about it that way.

I prefer not to jump into a new career without experience. Although I did that with trees. I'm a self taught climber. But I prefer not to jump into driving without experience. But if push comes to shove and the companies refuse, that is my backup plan. And if I can't get my own authority with my convictions, my 2nd backup plan would be to lease on to a company.

But with all of the above said, my goal is to drive OTR and get some experience, so in the mean time, I'm praying.

The main benefit I seen with Pam, knowing they are not a top choice company, is now they only require 6 month commitment. I would try to ride out a year with them. Than hope to move local.

Appreciate that. I've heard of Stevens, but just read up on KLLM, also looks like another good starting point.

Driving a Tractor with a Tractor Trailer attached, through unknown territory, over the speed-limit sounds like a career death sentence. Can't say I would partake in that one. lol
