Everyone talking about maybe being late is looking at the issue in a vacuum.
Of course the salaried employees that are now loading and unloading the trucks know of the strike obviously. 5 minutes late isn't going to be an issue.

That law should be amended or repealed. It should be illegal to obstruct the flow of traffic on public roadways.

The unions shouldn't be treating workers of other companies like garbage.

The "we're allowed to arbitrarilly hold you up 5 minutes" rule sounds more like what the local cops are tolerating than what they're legally authorized to do.

i question if that driver had a legal gun on him, or was it a "street corner purchase"?

he wasn't threatened by anyone, so self defense is out the door for him, i mean literally, he went out the door with a gun, for what, to get them to move?

that's not any threat to his safety.

if and i say if that gun was not a legal purchased gun, he should be arrested, and should have his CDL revoked for life.

maybe the now former employer WILL TELL any potential new employer he is dangerous and carries a gun on him.

Back in the late 70s or the early 80s, UFCW Local 222 was picketing the IBP plant in Dakota City, Nebraska. They blocked the plant entrance every day for weeks. The cops would go in at shift change so temporary workers ("scabs" if you prefer) could get in and out. Then one day the union guys shot and killed one of them and turned over a couple of cars and the next thing you know Nebraska had a law that said striking workers walking a picket line had to stay 50 feet apart from each other.

i only worked for 1 union company, and thankfully we never went on any strikes. i also as a union worker, and needing the money to support my family, would not cross MY picket lines.

however, there are those people that NEED to work and they will cross the lines.

i never tolerated violence of any sort, at any time, and that includes laying down a bed of nails to flatten tires.

when violence comes into play, from THAT moment on, i have NO respect for the union, or the workers.

in the end, since i am retired, this union BS does not affect me. but i would rather work for a non-union company, than one that is union.

too many variables, but I'll end with this:

can anyone guarantee a union company will NEVER close up, over a non-union company..??

My own opinion on unions is that, if the union is attempting to get health, safety, or personal liability issues addressed, then more power to them. If its about trying to negotiate compensation and holidays (particularly if they already have benefits which are beyond what can reasonably be expected for a similar workload at other companies), then I have no reason to regard the union efforts as in any way special (same category as individuals interviewing for jobs or promotions, businessmen working out deals, and shoppers evaluating products by price and perceived quality).

I don't think unions are showing themselves to be particularly valuable employees by refusing to do the job, hassling those who are willing to take their place, and relying on special privileges from the government.

I also think that people would do well to keep in mind what their lives would be like if all they had to work with is their own two hands, the clothes on their back, and an open field (before yelping about how terrible their first world problems are).

a union can only guarantee, what the employer has negotiated at contract time.

    i know this from experience.

health benefits can and WILL change almost each year, due to costs to the employer, and that does not mean the next set of benefits are going to be any better, let's face it, the lower the premiums the employer can get..many times, the LOWER the coverages.

also too, you get a pay raise..the union dues go up as well...what did one gain..???

many times, unions are just for seniority in choosing vacation time, or bid runs, sometimes equipment assignments.

and of course, the unions are only "somewhat good" for protecting the employee from being fired, but in the end, the employee usually hangs himself, and gets fired.

unions can also bleed a company dry of money......especially a flailing company, that cannot afford to pay thier bills, but still have to pay all those dollars to the workers...end results..??

    CLOSED.
