Well - we kinda figured that out today.
Allow me a quick rant - but the medical system here is about as fudged up as a fudge factory could be on fudging Friday of fudge year.
Goes to ER, they chest X-ray, but do not release results to patient.
Goes to GP - happens to photograph ER paperwork left on counter waiting for GP.
GP does not read paperwork - Gretchen has to ask for fluid retention pills. GP suggest tripling dosage of BP medication.
Gretchen consults with her NP friend, I consult with agent that has been through this - Google . . .
See a cardiologist? No - need a referral for that.
I almost called down there. But HIPPA. She'll call on Monday, request/demand referral to cardiologist and hope for a quick appointment.
Paperwork, as read by radiologist -
Heart is enlarged
Mild Central pulmonary congestion
Suspected underlying mild Congestive Heart Failure.
I ain't a doctor - but probably needs echocardiogram , ASAP, and cardiologist attention.
And obviously looking for a new GP.JoeyJunk, PPLC, 4mer trucker and 14 others Thank this. -
You know, Blair, the whole "congestive heart failure" thingy would lead me to find a new doctor.....like NOW!
Best wishes. It truly sucks when stuff like this happens when you're on the road.
The Hazul got to do both a hurricane AND a tornado (1 year apart) while I was gone and it killed me....(she took it like a trooper though. When the tornado came through she grabbed the weather radio, a pack of smokes, and a bottle of bourbon and camped out in the linen closet in the bathroom. Came through it without a scratch...can't say the same for the roof though). -
Sorry to hear that this has been a bit of a disaster for everyone. I really despise a large proportion of the medical community. I am the consumer here, I have questions and want answers to them.
“They” insurance companies, all the medical groups and associations tell you to be an informed consumer of services. “They” say ask question, understand your options, look for the best solution, blah, blah, blah.
When you do that, you’re a difficult or non-compliant patient. Most of rant over….
Sorry to hear that Gretchen is having both a hard time with getting to the bottom of the problems
Would say, yes she needs to see a cardiologist, and yes, a full run of a 12 or more lead EKG, plus an Echocardiogram should be performed. Maybe even a stress test. They need to build a base line. Probably also need to look into having a pulmonary doctor in on this. Just giving pills to some one does nothing of value, except for the pharmacorp and the kick backs to doctor for the prescription.
Think it is the right direction to find a better suited physician for her needs. One that will listen, answers questions and provides the quality of care that she needs.JoeyJunk, PPLC, Old_n_gray and 9 others Thank this. -
Sounds like you’re describing a dream?JoeyJunk, cke and blairandgretchen Thank this.

These days you have to doctor shop, if you live in an area you have enough doctors and hospitals to do so.
Doctors don't have time to read up on the medications they prescribe, thus, they depend on the reps and pharmaceutical companies to inform them.
The surgeons that performed my recent emergency bypass were excellent. The type and amount of medications they gave me almost killed me.
I had lost 20 pounds in 17 days in the hospital, and 20 more over the next two weeks at home, while being so weak I couldn't sit up by myself. much less try to walk.
Doctor wouldn't adjust meds at all. I had the wife look up all the meds, their side effects, and what they were for. Around half went into the trash, and by two days later I was starting to feel better. Much to the doctors disagreement, I am now just taking two drugs instead of close to 17. I'm doing cardiac rehab three times a week, and am doing very well for as bad of a heart attack I had.
You have to search for a doctor that may disagree with you, but is willing to agree the ultimate decision is yours as to what you take.
Most of all, research symptoms and every medication taken. In my case, the medication was killing me. I have no doubt I would be dead now had I stayed on everything the hospital sent home with me. 40 pounds lost in 4 weeks, when I only weighed 190lbs to begin with, is unsustainable, but not according to the cardiologist I fired.JoeyJunk, cke, Old_n_gray and 8 others Thank this. -
Are you done yet?

"Blood and Pus Sausage II - the cyst returns"
Tune in as our beleagured victim suffers through yet another one of the more irritating blessings of human life.
@Espressolane put it succinctly. Yes - I'm done. DONE . DONE I TELL YOU!
I returned after box 11, for Box 12. Last Thursday, I drove the 690 miles from Atwood,CO to load in MN. The beast was starting to wriggle and swell. I thought , after looking at myself in the mirror - " Do you really want/need to put yourself in this situation again?".
I wondered if it might just need a shower, some rest, and be fine. Like we often foolishly believe that "It's just a cold water leak, it'll be OK" - and continue until the water pump goes. Wishful thinking I guess. Stuff doesn't fix itself.
So, I slept the night, woke up and made the call, and bailed out for home on Friday. Called the GP and got a refill for Bactrim (It's the better antibiotic than the ((worthless in my opinion)) Amoxycillin, but not as broad spectrum as Clindamyacin, of which I had two left and immediately took). And an appointment for 11am Monday. Got home after 600 miles , cleaned out the truck and slept. The sausage kept growing, and Saturday night reached its peak, waking me up about every hour. Woke up Sunday and went and made coffee, after trying to figure out in bouts of wakefulness the previous night, was I willing to stab the thing myself, or succumb to a $10k ER visit like last time.
Luckily the waters broke - it found its way out through a skin pore, without tunneling too much farther. I retraced my steps with paper towels mopping up blood and pus spots from the kitchen to the bedroom, ran a warm bath and let the waters run red/yellow draining it out.
Monday morning my blessed GP injected Lidocaine,( that's a fun one - intense pain followed quickly by immediate relief) - stabbed me with the heavenly Toradol, (remember that one by name folks - it's a nerve blocker, far better than Fentanyl) ,and sliced the pore open about 3/4ths of an inch, and stuffed the new wound with gauze rope. Today has been fun - we don't want to defecate, because my One god-given exit for defecation, and my healed incision, and now my new opening are all within inches of one another. Tomorrow I go back to GP and hope he doesn't want to remove and re-stuff with gauze rope. But doc knows best.
Unfortunately it's an intentionally open wound. The stuff that comes out is sticky/tacky, and quickly irritates skin. The wound tries to heal up around the gauze, so if you sit ( you can't sit, you just lean on a flank) for too long, there is a tearing action when you move again. (And hydrocodone barely makes a dent on it - it's a pretty sharp pain there).
They're supposedly setting the building yesterday and today - wish them luck, and truly miss being there to see the completion. I delivered 1/7th of the units, and would have liked to have been there to see it go up.
Still working through with the insurance company, but the initial claims and 'patient responsible' reflect $6,384 owed for my one ER visit to rid the blood sausage Part One. No way I wanted to go back there, so I'm pleased that it found a way out on its own this time.
Fun, Fun, Fun.
cke, kemosabi49, 4mer trucker and 11 others Thank this. -
Sheesh man, talk about a bad time of it! Hope this doesn’t happen again for you!!!
cke, 4mer trucker, JoeyJunk and 6 others Thank this. -
Um, dang dude.
I guess you can't drink either, huh?
Well, don't listen to their BS.....you can still drink, it just makes you sick as a dog.... which might take your mind off the fact that your butt is, well, not well.
Best wishes, Blair.
