I love how these “employees” and politicians act like this company is there friends or parents or something. Like the company is responsible for the whole community?

Five or six years ago (iirc) I read an almost identical story about this plant. Somehow they kept it open then after making the notice. I haven't been in there for at least seven years, but it seemed like it was limping along barely surviving then. It's hard to know where the line between news and propaganda is. I treat it all as propaganda until proven otherwise.

Tried to load them two weeks ago on a Wednesday and supposedly they are short on some material so they shut the production line down for the rest of the week?
Guessing it's some parts that come on a container from over seas maybe?Another Canadian driver, OLDSKOOLERnWV, cke and 4 others Thank this. -
If you read the wording of the reason they give, you can see that if they are closing this plant to reflect the orders that are coming to this plant, it's real easy to see that they could be purposefully stiffing this facility by simply re-routing their orders to other plants, or other countries...the creative waffling I see from companies that try to weasel out of business.

It was devastating to the entire town when this happened a few years ago. I wondered then if it was a ploy to have employees and vendors bow to their demands.Another Canadian driver, cke, CAXPT and 3 others Thank this.

I lived in granite City for 3 years from 2008 to 2011 and this city was effectively built around the steel plant so when it shuts down it has a noticeable impact around the local community. I don't want to speculate on the internal politics of the situation but I don't think it's too far off from what you stated.Another Canadian driver, PPLC, Nostalgic and 8 others Thank this.
