Yes they have a linehaul board and city board. If you move from one to the other you carry your total seniority with you but moving from one to another has to be approved by SCM. R&L is different than most others as there is generally more money to be made on the city side than the linehaul side. Granted, there are GOOD paying linehaul bids but they are generally snapped up by the senior guys. It all depends on the barn you’re at. If possible talk to one of the guys that are out of the barn you’re looking at. As an example I hired on at the Norwalk Ohio barn right at a time when there was a HUGE number of older guys retiring within about 4 years of my start date. I shot up the seniority list pretty quickly but the guys hired in three or four years behind me are stuck for the time being. Again, they are not a BAD company. One of my favorite sayings is there’s three ways to do things there; the right way, the wrong way, and THE R&L WAY!

If you’re interested in team driving, it’s a whole other ball game. I think they treat the teams very well financially. One thing that comes into play though and IndianaMike can correct me on this, is that the teams are less affected by their domicile SCM and linehaul dispatchers. They do have some Solo system drivers in sleepers but the regular linehaul is all out and back. You either turn at a terminal or swap wagons at a meet point.

I think the current hourly rate is right about 31.00 per hour for city. No overtime. Plan on 50 to 65 hours a week. Linehaul gets nothing extra generally. All fueling and normal drop and hook and building and breaking sets is included in the flat rate that a run pays.
