Driver facing cameras almost always hurt the driver more than anyone else. The carrier gets burnt pretty good too if a good lawyer gets involved.
Driver didn't check his mirrors enough times? Negligent.
Driver doesn't have both his hands on the wheel at all times?
Negligent.
Driver changed the radio station or turn on his CB?
Negligent.
Driver yawned or rubbed his eyes?
Fatigued.
Driver took a drink of his beverage?
Negligent.
They'll always find something to pin on him. In an industry that has always blamed everything on the driver no matter how big or small; why on Earth would anyone agree to add video to the mix?

I totally agree. I only mentioned the above because it's never really brought up. Seems like everyone gets hung up on the privacy angle but there's a huge legal angle too that's worth considering.Last edited: Dec 17, 2023

Their truck their rules. You can't go anywhere these days without cameras watching you so why worry about it? This is the reality we live in so either you can play ball or be unemployed. The choice is simple.
Atwt and bryan21384 Thank this. -
That's a good example of a typical middle manager's attitude.

That's cute. I have worked in an office and they can live view those cameras anytime they want to. It has nothing to do with the driver doing something to trigger the camera because the company sets the sensitivity of the Camara. I have absolutely been there in the office when safety and also the operations manager looked at live camera feeds from the fleet. So you can talk all that B's you want to about who is complaining but truth is it is absolutely invasive. If you're having a conversation on your phone that's private God for id you are going thru a divorce and have an attorney you have to talk to you lose attorney client privileges if anything is recorded on that camera.

I didn’t read through all of the responses so my apologies if it’s already been said, but the solution is pretty simple. If you have concerns about the privacy of the cameras, or just don’t like them, then find a gig that doesn’t use them. Pretty simple really.

p.s. Another option is go talk to the owner. I don’t recall his name (no, it’s not Melton). He’s a pretty cool dude, pony tail and all. I talked with him a couple of times (no complaints, just general #### chat) when I worked there. Frankly, I thought they were a pretty decent outfit. My issue, and why I left, is they tarp EVERYTHING! I swear, I think they’d make you tarp roofing shingles. Lol
I should add, for full disclosure, they didn’t have cameras when I worked there.Last edited: Dec 20, 2023
