Supposed to be nasty blizzard conditions in NE CO and SW NE, until sometime tomorrow evening, maybe Wednesday morning. The forecast snow is as much as 11" (heavier east) with 25-35 mph w/ 60mph gusts.
That won't just be zero viz, it'll also drift most overpasses closed, especially WB.austinmike, Oxbow, Cat sdp and 4 others Thank this. -

Hmmmm it wasn't exactly a secret that a blizzard was making its way through northern Colorado, Nebraska, and on up through the Dakotas. I think they should have considered closing that highway ahead of time. I've gone across 80 a few times in bad weather, and crazy as this sounds, I'd almost rather chain up on a mountain than to go across 80 once you get west of Des Moines. It's not safe at all to travel that highway with blowing snow
Oxbow, Big Road Skateboard, cuzzin it and 2 others Thank this. -
Interstate 80is not safe in bad weather in Iowa either it gets dangerous once you get west of WalcottLast edited: Dec 25, 2023

Better to sit it out. Most drivers are driving too fast for the road conditions because they been on the road for long hours. Weather conditions change very quickly, along with type of terrain your on and drivers have to keep adjusting to flat lands, hills, mountains, snow, rain, and fog with different ways of driving and braking. Better to sit it out, slow down and brake cautiously.
austinmike, drvrtech77 and bzinger Thank this.
