As I understand, and I'm probably wrong - when it comes to LS agent pay -

Say I own an agency. LS takes 10% straight off the top, so I get 7% of 90% of the line haul. None of the 100% accessorial like FSC and tarp charges.

So that's $63 of every $1,000 of line haul.

If I have a partner, or a sub agent or employees acting for agents - they'll be another agreement in place. I would imagine that employees of agents are paid a base salary and then commission on volume.

Hence the outsourcing. If you set up a bunch of sub agents in foreign countries, do the math on foreign exchange rates, paying $10USD an hour to somebody in the Ukraine or Phillipines, to sit in front of the laptop with phone lines through San Antonio,TX - cutting and pasting, calling and booking,

To me, it became fairly obvious when the AUS agents get REALLY excited about a load that pays $8-$10k, they have no idea about how to run an oversize load, but are foaming at the mouth on the potential line haul revenue to their pocket.

They refer to everyone as 'their customer', when in reality , it's a CHR or other agent they deal with, that has to then offer it to X, Y, and call Z to get any answers. I've bypassed this for plain fun in the past, Googled shippers, called them and got the straight up skinny on loads, just to prove my assumptions.

Finding a genuine LS agent that has direct customers, at least in the legal freight realm - is unicorn farts.

And then on to the driver cut. If the agent gets 7% of 90% of LH - and LS takes 26-35% of LH from the driver - then the freight has to pay significantly more than regular loads for all this to be economically feasible. This becomes quickly apparent in down cycles like we are experiencing now.

Dog food, toilet paper and roofing shingles don't cut it to survive here. The term 'specialize' is a loose term that includes behavior - just being dependable, reliable, and low maintenance raises your chances of success to above half the LS crowd. Having just a slight edge in any capacity type enforces that.

    Sorry @Dave_in_AZ for a derail.

Summerfield is about as far from the ocean as you can get in Florida. I figure I can rent out tent space in my back yard when a hurricane comes in and clean up :)

At my house its about 95 feet. I was looking at places in Kissimmee that were in the 220-250 foot range. I figured if every ice cube on the planet melted, then I would have oceanfront property in Kissimmee :)

When the hoax first started......Landstar was giving everyone an extra $50 a load for supposedly going in harms way.

Well you guys know The OM. Had to pipe up on the fakebook page and ask why the agents were also getting $50 a load.

I mean they made the arduous journey from their bedroom to the kitchen in their jammies at least 2 or 3 times a day.
