Yep it is plowed, I don't see any snow on the road, just ice.

Always a big difference when driving from Wyoming to UT. Wyoming roads will be snow and hardly touched and UT will be completely cleared off. At least that was normal before Covid hit. I do not go out that way much the last few winters but when I did it was the same from my experience.

    Oxbow and JoeyJunk Thank this.

See that’s my point. Cross the state line into Utah and it’s night vs day different.

Went from packed snow to pavement. I’ll take the pavement.

What do you think the cost difference is for Utah to get their deicer west of Ogden versus having to haul it to WY or ID or MT or any other state? It was gravy back when we could run 55+ on a scored snowpack that was cold instead of everything refreezing in the single digits and being slicker than if they just left it alone.

Siinman, Oxbow and Magoo1968 Thank this.

Some areas prefer leaving some snow on the roads it reduces the severity of the crashes due to lower speeds.. people will drive 50 mph on snow but go 80 mph on ice because they assume it’s wet or salted.

They are notoriously pretty lazy about it. You can go up the Idaho side of Lookout and it's bare wet pavement and come down on the Montana side on compacted snow and ice. In between Missoula and Butte I almost went sliding off the road several times last time I went through there, and I wasn't going fast. They can get away with it because of how wide open and sparsely traveled some of those stretches are and you're just kind of on your own to know better and be prepared to handle it. Wyoming on the other hand will just close interstate. But yes how they do it out there wouldn't be tolerated east of the Mississippi.
