You shouldn’t, but I’ve heard some of them rope you into smaller commitments for the “training period” where you drive with a “trainer” for whatever their prescribed time requirement happens to be. Not a year contract, but some form of obligated time. That’s not necessarily a bad thing. 6 months or so with a mid-mega couldn’t hurt.

Ask each company if there's a contract.
If you tell any company you plan to bail out soon, you won't be hired.

Just a fwiw, without your MC being active it isn’t going to “age”.

How can you keep your MC, DOT, CA numbers active when you said you're uninsured ? I understand you have your equipment parked, but to keep your authority active and “aged”, those numbers require to have insurance or they will be suspended and it will show for the record.

He just got the numbers and did nothing else..didn’t activate them with required insurance,BOC3 etc.

I obtained mine two years prior to activating them.. I jumped the gun and got them before actually finding out what insurance was going to cost.. I just assumed it would be what everyone was telling me but I didn’t know about the Florida factor :)

Anyway, when I finally did try activating my numbers I was charged again, I forgot how much..$3-400?. They let me keep the numbers I originally got though.

Yes, that's essentially what's going on with my situation.

Go into your FMCSA account and update your MCS-150.. put 1 mile in the miles traveled spot.

This is what they told me to do so my numbers wouldn’t disappear. Or just call them and ask what you should do until you are ready to proceed with it.
