Seriously, listen to these guys. My truck came with a thermoking evolution and it's been nothing but a pain in the ### to maintain. For one, thermoking itself is a total ripoff. I can't stand the sons of #####es at any of the shops except one. Then there is changing the screen in the bunk heater every year. Digging that little ####### out can be a pain in the ###. Really wish I would have just went the gas generator route instead of dumping loads of time and money into the thermoking pos.
USED APU worth it for a used truck?

It takes literally 5 minutes to change out $1 screen, what are you #####in about?wifi_guru Thanks this.
-
you'll save a lot of fuel but you'll throw $5k+ a year at the tripac keeping it running. everything always ends up being a financial wash one way or another. but imo $$ spent into a tripac is way way better than $$ spent into the truck, on all accounts. I think of tripac as armor, still expensive af over time, but it's there to do a job, tripac eats $$ to protect what makes $$

the new tripac 3rd gen has the dpf on it one more thing to go wrong
flood Thanks this. -
It's optional if you want to go to commieforniawifi_guru Thanks this.

If everything goes right it doesn't take 5 minutes but it's not uncommon for that screen to be stuck or break or get squished up in the little hole. Glad to hear you've had no trouble with yours yet.

this is good to know. i would never run in commieforina or NY

Nothing wrong with running to CA ot NY with a standard APU.
-
Except for having to actually enter those states.

I paid 3.5k$ for a known good carrier unit, which over 3 years cost me 11k$ in parts and repairs. It was great when iten it worked but always a nuisance getting time to have it fixed etc and the biggest money pit I ever knew.
If I did it again, I'd spend some money on a proper cabinet, maybe fuel tank, and properly mount a generator and ac unit. Probably an indoor one properly vented, maybe a mini split but I'm not convinced they'd handle the ride in the longer term.wifi_guru Thanks this.
