He means it financially wrecked him
Underwater on a loan means even if the insurance paid the cost of a replacement truck, it wouldnt cover the outstanding portion of the loan.
Then because the driver is at fault, he'll have fines, and accident costs, not to mention a likely lawsuit to fight too.

He wasn't a year into the updated truck and interest was at an all time high so he still owed a large amount after putting everything he had into his 'last' truck before retirement so he had no funds and little chance to drive for someone else.blairandgretchen Thanks this.
