Did he have kids and a wife? That’s why I never got a place for myself and just lived in a truck until I’m ready for that kind of commitment. I had to spend over 18k for one year due to taxes and heart surgery. It actually wasn’t even a year, more about 8 months in one year. I barely have a savings and the only thing backing me up is whatever I put into a Roth IRA I have. Had something were to happen id have 2 accidents in 3 years. I do believe whoever you are as a person would wind up being the same result for yourself unless you are REALLY messing up. Being on drugs and killing a bunch of people will end you no matter who you are. I only accidentally fell asleep for a brief second and looked at my phone to feel normal because I didn’t have any coffee to drink. A dip in the shoulder scared me and I went back to the road. Thankfully nothing happened. I don’t think my life as a trucker would be over if nobody got hurt but it would postpone things for sure

The Men Who Stare At Snow: A Study of Trucker Hypnosis
Rideandrepair Thanks this. -
It’s happened to everyone that’s driven any amount of time. Anyone who claims otherwise is lying. Hopefully they’re honest with themselves. Main thing is to be aware of the first signs before it happens.I think it’s akin to hallucinations, caused from sleep deprivation. That’s a very real thing. Explains why so many religious rituals include starvation and sleep deprivation to induce spiritual experiences (hallucinations). We need sleep. We dream in our sleep. Without it, we can enter a sleep or dream state while wide awake, eyes open. In my case the red flag signs changed with age. I could go from wide awake to dozing off quickly. Had to adjust my habits, learn to shut it down right away at the first sign of sleepiness. Some of those memories make my skin crawl. Thank God I never injured anyone.

Absolutely with the last sentence. Not just with hypnosis but also in general. I’ve been driving for 7 years and sometimes I wonder how I came out of certain spots where everyone was fine afterwardshope not dumb twucker, Rideandrepair and Numb Thank this.

Back when I first started, I woke up in one of our yards with the brakes not set, the lights on, the window open and the cab full of snow. No clue where I was or how I got there. That was a learning experience for sure!

I've noticed the same thing with age -
The onset is sleepiness, and it's difficult to fight through, best option is to find a safe place off the road and , even just lay your head on the steering wheel and let your senses rest.
Hypnosis, I've not really experienced, or passed it off as sleepiness. I've certainly had times I can't recall the last 100 miles, where my system is functioning on muscle memory alone.
Any phone conversation, radio program can induce the same - the true focus is not on the task at hand.
Only takes a second or two of inattention to find yourself off the road or in the wrong lane.kemosabi49, Rideandrepair, Crude Truckin' and 1 other person Thank this. -
