+1 on being an OODIA Member! Add them and ATBS to your "must subscribe to" list.

Don't bother with ATBS, get a real accountant and let them do the work.

While you are at it OP, have a good lawyer on retainer, you will need one.

Wonder if the OP will even be back?

    Siinman Thanks this.

where do you get the idiotic idea that atbs doesn't use real accountants? If they didn't use real accountants they wouldn't be able to file taxes for you, intervene in your behalf on tax issues with the IRS, or half the other stuff that they advertise they do. If you don't like them that's fine. But don't say that they don't use real accountants.

It isn't idioitic, why do you think an accountant has to do with taxes?

I said get a real accountant, ATBS is a financial service company, and ATBS has had issues in the past. The OP is starting a "trucking company" which is a fleet to me, not a single truck owner/operator outfit.

They will need a responsive accountant who is an EA that can help them structure their business and help them make decisions beyond taxes, which ATBS does not do. It has to be more of a working relationship between the OP and the accountant, not one where you have to just submit recipes and wait for a P&L.

    Siinman Thanks this.

Thanks everyone for all the input! I think for the “start-up” process we are all wrapped up. MC active in 12 days!
We are just a husband (CDL driver) and wife (the brains) owner/op for now. Any further advice is most welcome. I learned so much already just getting everything applied for, filed, and paid to get the truck in motion. I know there’s a boat load more.
    Load board recommendations?
Advice on signing up with companies ?
-we already have contracts w/ 2 companies my husband developed relationships with as a company driver.
Currently learning about factoring while we wait for active status

I use OOIDAs cmci, being member also gives you process agents for all states.

I use a CPA, she does my taxes a lot cheaper than ATBS, plus, can drive to her office in town vs over phone to someone you’ll never talk to on person.

As for factoring, Try getting away from that, giving away 2-4% of your money.
    $250k/ year you flushed $5,000, $300k/$6000, just at 2%

I had a factoring company call me the other day trying to sell me their services. Telemarketer:“ we offer the lowest factoring rate around” Me: “What is it?” Telemarketer: “We offer same day payment on all your loads for the exceptional rate of only 4%” Me, tears low gear out. Telemarketer:” Bur sir, you must realize nobody offers a rate lower than 3.5-4%. Ours is 4% because of the level of professionalism we offer, and the speed of our payments. Me: hangs up on the embicile. Nitwit. Rant over
