I try to avoid fueling right before shutting down to avoid the expansion problem. I rather top off as much as I can and moving out right away. You’ll burn off some of the excess trying to get back to highway speeds anyways.
You are fueling up with diesel, how full do you go?

It's hard to resist trying to cram in those extra gallons. But honestly, it can cause some serious issues with your car. You don't want to mess with the emissions system or risk fuel leakage.

Topping a truck off isn’t going to mess with the emissions.kylefitzy, High Stepper, tscottme and 1 other person Thank this.

Back in 2006, we fueled in Denver, headed west - got a Level 1 inspection up the hill there, and noted as a violation (the only violation) - was “Tanks exceeding rated capacity “.
As @Last Call said - look at the filler neck for the % full information.4mer trucker, Last Call, Magoo1968 and 1 other person Thank this. -
Bottom of the neck, usually stop at a round number, I hate wasting time and stopping so if I’m stopping for fuel it’s getting filled

Is this a serious thread ? What’s next, “How long do you hold the start button(turn key) before you let go ?”……..?

Once upon a time I would said this is just a joke .. but sadly I think it is a serious question this just show the level this industry has lowered it’s self tooLast edited: Apr 16, 2024
BigR and Diesel Dave Thank this. -
So says the man who has run tanks bone dry and knows exactly how much to tell them to bring.

Words of wisdom,...
One of my business partners was quite taciturn. He was getting a 20 out of the petty cash box under the counter one day to go on a service call.
It was usual to take some cash if you were going to another town and knew gas would be cheaper. Knowing the call was only in city limits, I stroked him a little" "Not going straight over there, huh Demp?" He just put the 20 in his pocket, box back under the counter, turned and walked past me saying....
"Roger, it is cheaper to haul it than it is to tote it."Attached Files:
