Man time is just flying by. When I first started we were making .565 and now it's .80! In 6 years time!

That really stings when you think about it. That 6 figure salary doesn't seem to be so nice.

I agree, to a point. Even if local, home every night drivers were seperated out you'd find a HUGE drop in earnings when comparing inflation adjusted wages. When you add in inflation adjusted spending it's enough to make a man cry. The same can be said of EVERY job from ditch diggers to doctors. There are only two things that have outpaced inflation in the last 30 years - executive/board compensation and dividends.

Truth is that was over the road trucking.
It wasn't outlaw per se cause we all did it.
Not just to make money but to aid in the comfort and ease of OTR.
No gps so you had to map a route in advance. No xm radios and you had to get within 45 miles of a big city just to get reception on your b&w tv with the rabbit ears on the mirror.
We didn't have fast food. We had to stop and sit down for a meal.
Never had 4 fuel stops on one exit.
No Wal-Mart to buy groceries in.
Each day we had to stop and check call twice. No google maps or satellite views.
Everything we take for granted today took twice as long to accomplish.
We just did what needed to be done and you were the only one responsible to get it done.
And some of the concepts today weren't developed back then. Regional. Dedicated. And most freight was direct because companies had sales departments right after deregulation.
