I tried flatbed once before, but they tarped everything, Is there a flatbed company that just chains down amd straps down with no tarping?
Not super heavy hall, but something like that?
Also do any flatbedders run all or most of the 48?
Tired of reefer looking at flatbed

I used to do flatbed. In the winter time, everything is getting tarped. In the summer time, not as many loads get tarped. It's the nature of the beast. If you want to get away from tarping, the best I could suggest is maybe covered wagon or conestoga. If you want open deck, you'll have to be ok with tarping. As for 48 states, Melton, Western Express, P&S Transportation, Central Oregon Transport, maybe Hunt Transportation

Find a flatbed company that hauls a lot of machinery like Kivi Bros in Duluth, MN. They run all 48, Alaska, and Canada.

Just start observing the open deck companies rolling down the road, you’ll get a quick sense of tarp/no tarp and kinds of freight.

A stick and brick hauler will tarp most loads. And they use lumber tarps. Steel haulers will tarp, but steel tarps are light and the loads are extremely easy to tarp OR they run conostoga trailers.
Specialized carriers will carry heavy equipment and machinery. Usually, the only machines that are tarped are crated loads. Specialized will be what you are looking for. -
ATS, Keen, Lonestar, EW Wylie, Rinaudo , Bulldog and Jordan comes to mind. If you want to get into heavy haul, real heavy haul, not that pretend stuff where they require you to do circus tricks for a decade straight to pull a multi axle rig, go with Keen.
I can’t remember the name of the company but @kylefitzy pulls for them. They do the aircraft stuff. They tarp, but the pay is STUPID good.
Also, if you can cross the border and run Canada, Alaska and the Territories, do it $$$$$. Depending on the gig, the money can be obscene. As a company schmuck, I used to make $300 every time I crossed the border. I would get up to Seattle and run Genie man lifts to Vancouver for weeks on end. Mileage plus the border pay.Last edited: May 12, 2024

RE West is a good one too

We run all 48, not a whole lot of the far north east but we do go there occasionally. But we tarp #### near everything.
the money Isn’t what it used to be, specifically for the new guys. I’m not sure if a new hire could ever make what I do
Here with the pay changes for them.
I’d look at valley out if grand meadows, mn. They only run equipment and last I heard they don’t even carry tarps. Start off on a step deck and can work your way up to big wagons if you want.bryan21384 and TripleSix Thank this. -
Hauling PODs storage containers is easy work for flatbedders.
No tarping and easy, straightforward securement. -
Look into Conestogas. No tarps, just chains and straps
And maybe Long Haul (company name)Truckermania Thanks this.
