The truck is a 2009 Western Star 4900 daycab with a 14L detroit. I just recently bought the truck, i've put around 4k miles on it, and the cab noise is worse than anything I've ever driven. The truck has all new exhaust from the turbo back, 2 donaldson m100465 mufflers as well as cab mount bushings, zero leaks. At cruise the drone is brain rattling, i think its quieter on the outside than it is in the cab. I also drive an almost identical truck but with a c15 accert that is straight piped all the way out with short stacks and it is actually very quiet and comfortable to drive which is really the reason I bought this truck. I'm thinking of putting high flow mufflers on because it seems really stuffed up and maybe that's causing it to drone so bad?? The way they route the exhaust I don't have room for an other resonator. Any suggestions are appreciated.
Terrible cab drone

Hush mat behind the doors and sleeper panels, as well as under the hood and floor if it’s doable. You don’t need to fill every single inch with it… thing works pretty #### good tho.

Checked it out - did you do the kit, or buy rolls?

Actually I used this. Also get application roller, I without order 2 boxes to begin with or measure the areas of cab and sleeper. Before applying I would use rag and alcohol to wipe dust off for better adhesion. Takes a while taking panels apart, but definitely a noticeable difference.

Also I’d buy extra clips for sleeper panels and door panels since few will definitely breakblairandgretchen Thanks this.

I had the headliner and back panel off to get rid of some lights they had on the roof. I put new insulation in those areas while I had it apart, it didn't seem to help any, although I probably didn't use the best of stuff as it was leftovers from another interior project. I will take a look at this stuff though as it looks like it really seals the cab up nice. The truck is also a daycab so I'm sure that doesn't help my situation anyblairandgretchen Thanks this.

If they are strait through mufflers that would be my guess for the drone. Years ago I had Donaldson mufflers with a perforated core went to a cone shape then back to 5". When they rotted out I went with Pitt Power strait through perforated core and noticed the deeper tone and a slight drone, wasn't enough to bother me though.

I have a 2007 WS 4900 with a sleeper have the same issue. Added noise mats and nothing is helping. Let me know if you was able to fix the drone.

Sounds like it might just be a thing with those western star cabs?

It happens sometimes if the header pipe coming from the turbo is bracketed under the cab or to the frame under the cab. The noise transfers up thru the cab. Some pipes are bracketed to the engine first and that can make a difference in noise frequency. Aluminum and steel mounting brackets can make difference in resonance as well.
Oxbow Thanks this.
