I've wondered if agents could get a better deal but in my ignorance just assumed that adding another mouth to feed in the process couldn't possibly make it cheaper on my end.

IMO having an agent is the only way to go. Mine has always answered any question, explaining things I’d never know otherwise. Working as an advocate for me. Sometimes there’s things that shouldn’t be said to Insurance Companies. Certain ways to handle claims. My agent has always been a great help. They shop rates for you. You can always shop on your own and compare, if you suspect they’re steering you in the wrong direction. They’re a great help, especially when there’s legal paperwork involved.

Times 2. I’ve been with the same agent for about 35 years. She gives me a heads up when the increases come ahead, explains to me what’s going on in the industry etc.

Had a 2.5% increase this year. Still comes out to only .065 per mile. That’s dry/reefer and haz. But, that’s with nearly 17 yrs in the game with little to no loss and inspections we’ll below the norm. So, I’d shoot for that but wouldn’t expect it.

I’d note that it does take heavy investment to have numbers like that so whether you want your insurance lower or your investment in equipment being on point it’s one or the other if that makes sense. I could skimp majorly but it would just make my down time higher and my insurance higher.

So Northland came in $300 less than my Progressive quote, 6 years with Progresive. No claims ever. Do I stay or do I go?

Diesel Dave and Siinman Thank this.

Hard choice..... My quote was over $3500 more from Progressive than last year. Northland was over $3000 cheaper then progressive and I upped my coverage to $250k.... I went with Northland. Policy starts tomorrow.

Edit to add: no claims or anything with Progressive for 4 years.

Shopping around every renewal is highly recommended to save some money regardless of whether it's commercial or not.
