I left the industry back in February and I know people making $32 up to the $38 $40 an hour driving a truck local. I can’t see why the industries doing a bellyflop. I had a guy who is dying to hire me $23 an hour .not a chance he couldn’t get me to drive a truck for $23 an hour. I know some states that’s pretty good money but not in Chicago. All states are different. I know that.
Fuel pay crashing now too??

I always thought the tankers were one of the highest paying jobs in industry

So many variables but high fuel costs for cosumers, living expenses rising 25 percent and wages falling combined with an economic depression is a recipe for disaster. Supply and demand is an obvious issue as well.

I am thinking maybe some restrictions have been lifted.behind the scenes on foreigners being allowed to work, (.drive trucks).under the current administration. Knowing what they are doing at the border it wouldn't surprise me. And that 20% foreign driver ratio is probably higher, at some of these truck stopsI i am about the only American , its probably more like 50 %.. . Hope we don't continue down this path..trucking is becoming a 3rd world job.hope not dumb twucker, ElmerFudpucker, thatsright and 1 other person Thank this.

When I travel the Punjabi Highway, I get genuinely pleased when I can have an conversation in English with another driver. It's becoming a rare thing.

How many times have you pulled into a shipper or receiver and they comment “I’m glad you speak English”. But they are a part of the problem. They don’t require it and they just want the cheapest truck. Which is generally an eastern euro guy who doesn’t run a legal log and will not buy the proper permits.Rideandrepair, hope not dumb twucker, smokey12 and 1 other person Thank this.

Something is going on. The routes I run have been so so traffic wise daytimes, but nights the roads are unusually bare. No trucks, no freight moving.
Plus, the rest areas that are normally packed are half full. This is the last 2 weeks or so. Upper to middle MidwestOrangeBox Thanks this.
