I know that the 2000 - 2010 (maybe the newer one still have this) their are 4 weep hole at the bottom of the door (if you open the door you can seem them) about 1/2" from the bottom of the door. A little 1/4" × 3/8" hole. If you take a 14-16" pic of coat hanger and push up just right in the hole under the handle. If you do it right you'll hit the lock lever and the door will unlock... I've seen you shop guys do it all the time to get into locked trucks...!!

I carry a lock out kit and was helping a guy who locked his keys in a pro star. He was worried about the airbag damaging door when I aired up so it was a pain but I get it new driver and all the horror stories you hear. Guy parked right across from him sees all this brings over a wad of keys says let me try. And older dodge ram key with a few seconds of wiggling and he was in

Never in sixteen years did I lock myself out. One time in wv at a little gas station a female driver came up and asked to use my key. I, like you am not gonna give my key to anybody, they might screw it up jiggling it in the lock, they might just run off with it, no telling now days how people can/will screw you over. So I told her I had two screwdrivers she could use to pop the little window out on the passenger door, and so that's what she did. This was the middle of winter and could as h#ll outside so I gave her an old wind breaker I had cause she didn't Even have a coat on. Some people don't think very far ahead or of the consequences that their actions have, I think.

Done it plenty of times. Taken out side windows, opened vents with vice grips. Always have at least 1 or 2 spare keys in my pocket. If not I try to leave a vent window unlocked. I finally hid one on the Truck about 10 years ago. Never had to use it. Go figure. The habit of only locking with the key is a good one. When buying my 99, I had keys to 5 Trucks on the lot. Went back in and told the salesman his keys were all mis identified. Blue Truck fits red Truck, red Truck keys fit white Truck. He laughed and said there’s only 7 different key combinations. I believe it, chances were you could borrow a key and within 4 on average, open the door. Once I helped a new Driver by taking the passenger side little window out. Broke it trying to put it back in. He didn’t have any money of course. Called a Dealer, sent him on his way with $20 so he wouldn’t get in trouble.

Volvo has a good design or idea. You can’t lock yourself out of the truck. Because the only way to lock the door is you have to be in the truck or from outside you have use the key to lock the door. They designed the door handle and lock as one piece. So you can’t open doors then lock the doors by accident

when I worked OTR one company gave me keys from a mechanic that would unlock any from x brand I got them for Freightliner and Kenworth i have multiple of those he claimed it would work on any year at the time so its kinda scary though windows can be smashed out pretty easy enough and people honestly don't care to see what happens until they hear a hit truck or a gunshot...

Locked myself out of my truck in Jersey once. Think it was Betsy Ross service plaza. I went inside and they actually sold lock out kits, and it actually worked!
Nowadays there's a spare key attached to anything I driveThe_vett and blairandgretchen Thank this. -
When you are getting out of your truck, do you only lock your truck door by using the key to lock the door?
Like you, I worry that if I hand my key to another driver, they might damage my key while jiggling it in the lock, or they might run off with it. Another thing i worry about is that if i handed my key to another driver to jiggle it in the lock, the other driver might even have the intention of giving the key back to me when he unlocks the door, but, in his desperation to get the door unlocked, he might want to take an hour to try to jiggle my key to unlock his door and refuse to give me my key back when I want to leave five minutes later because I am under a hot load. I won't hand my key to any other driver ever.Last edited: Aug 19, 2024
