Did any of you applicants ask you what the 710 marking on the dipstick meant?

Nope, there isn't one on it, it is a DD13 engine.

The part number is stamped on the other side of the cross-hatch pattern and I had one driver tell me what letters the oil was up to, she recited them by memory which I thought was good.

That's crazy numbers but , I went to Holland trucking for about two weeks, truck kept braking down, they told me that they check the oil and that I had no business under the hood, well ok I'll be seeing ya, I wonder how many other companies have a policy were they don't let the driver check the fluids?

I work for a local company that runs nothing but older iron. We only run in Texas and back home every night. Company has a full time mechanic to do the maintenance and can handle most repairs. The oldest company truck is a 1988 362 Peterbilt cabover and the newest is a 2004 Peterbilt 379 short hood. The boss hates dealing with the emissions system on newer engines and dealing with ELDs. 3 trucks have to use the ELD but everybody else is still on paper logbooks.

Well, I'm no fan of automatics in HD trucks, but you are on to something. There is a glut of unsold classic cars today, why? Because nobody knows how to drive a stick. I think there is a call for classic cars, just because they are so oddly designed, but they have to be an automatic today for any appeal. The automatic in an old truck kind of conflicts with one another. Folks that want an old KW won't mind shifting, while someone that wants/needs an automatic, wouldn't be seen in an older truck. Not enough power ports,,

I run old equipment. I just keep fixing it. Insurance is cheap. I don't got to deal with all the new BS.

    Rideandrepair and Texasgordo Thank this.

That’s complete bs. They go through the trucks and trailers with all the drivers who come in and show them what to check for and how to do it.
