In Texas if you were born before 1970, you can self-certification get intrastate exemption no more medical cards needed. Cannot have hazmat or passenger endorsements.

I know because I called today that Tennessee will downgrade to a non cdl-a 30 days after your medical card expired.. you have 8 years to get a new one and they will auto update you back to a cdl-a. So check with your state

I've found in my state. You can call multiple times and get multiple answers.

Just an update. As stated, I got it sorted. I was short on time so didn't post how. Anyway, I didn't go back and re-read the replies, but I think some of you stated the correct procedure. All I had to do was go to the Arkansas Department of Finance and Administration office and fill out a "Self Certification Affidavit" and select option 2 (excepted interstate). Now, my CDL will stay on my license and should I, in the HIGHLY unlikely event, ever want to drive again, I just submit a new med card and I'm good.

I was able to keep my cdl in Nevada by self certifying it. Maybe you can do that there as well. It just meant I couldn’t driver commercial class A but I can driver personal Class A.

same, NV as well. You can just go to the DMV and have them make it “medical exempt” and you keep your CDL, you are just not allowed to drive a commercial vehicle for commercial purposes. But you dont lose your CDL.

whenever you decide to drive again commercially, go get a physical and they give it back to you same day.
Thats what I would do @op. That way you don’t have to br worrying about your physical.
