So I started using a new mechanic. He got me in quick for a loud exhaust valve issue. He pulled the valve cover yesterday, and when I went to get some tools out my truck today, I noticed the hood was down BUT rain could still get right into the valve cover, as the small dog house panel was removed as required to get the cover off. I just told him I had to take the truck out of his shop. He asked my why, and i told him because he left the engine open to the rain. He didn’t see a problem, even though it rained all day yesterday. What do you guys think? Did I blow it out of proportion?
Am I wrong? No cover - removed valve cover

No you didn't blow it out of proportion, I would ask why is the truck out of the bay and not fixed.
I can tell you from experience with some shops that are 'patch it up and pray it will make it out of here' shops.Rideandrepair, broke down plumber, Jordonh and 3 others Thank this. -

Makes you wonder how they stay in biz with a biz plan like that? Mechanic just finished putting on valve cover. It’s spewing oil under the truck. Took it straight to Freightliner.Rideandrepair, Constant Learner, broke down plumber and 2 others Thank this.

yeah, I don't get how some shops stay in business.
I had one that had a truck of mine at a dealer-recommended shop. They were trying to figure out why the windshield washer wasn't working and it took them two days in the bay to figure it out.
Now the problem is the driver told the write-up girl it was the washer pump, which was a $34 item at the time. It is a .5 hr for R&R which a total bill would have been $90. I've had them replaced a few times.
The driver went home and after three days, they called the driver and said it was fixed.
What they did was drill a hole in the washer tank, stick the hose in it, seal it with gorilla glue, mount a cheap $10 washer pump, and cut the hose on the original pump to put it on the new pump.
Now the thing is, I got a $400 bill for this crap, which was paid for on a credit card before they released the truck. When I saw the picture of the work, I called the credit card company to file a complaint and they reversed the entire amount.
I called the dealer and ordered a new tank and a new pump to replace it when the truck got off the road. I had my mechanic put it in, and I sent the shop a bill for the work - $500. They never paid and I got a nasty email from the owner telling me to stick it up my ******.Rideandrepair, RepoweredRookie and Constant Learner Thank this. -
Too funny. Sending a repair shop a bill for doing a professional re-worked repair yourself is savage. I dropped the truck at Freightliner, they looked at it, and called me with the numbers. It ain’t cheap, but it’s no longer frustrating.
Thanks for the responses guys!Rideandrepair, dosgatos and 77fib77 Thank this.
