Find yourself a local job hauling beer or soda pop. Or, find an end dump outfit. None of those are ideal (at least not to me). But, they're typically local mom and pop outfits that don't ask a lot of questions, if you get my drift. In other words, as long as there's nothing on your MVR, they're not likely to call or check with your previous company.

Try Swift. They hire the BEST of the worst. You're new and you will make mistakes, a lot of mistakes. There are many companies and your are needed more than you realize. Just take your time while learning. I've been doing this OTR for 20+ years and I still learn.

Try these companies below based in N.C.
    • Mabes
    • Epes
    • Cargo Transporters
    • Kennedy Brothers
    • Carolina Tank Lines
    • Barnes
    • Harris Teeter
    • Food Lion
Go to your local truck stops, paper mills, food distribution centers, farms, quarries, land fills, construction sites and note what carriers are coming in and out and call them. Driver recruiters, like car sales people have a quota to meet each month, so plan to call 20 carriers near the end of the month, keep a notebook or excel spread sheet and jot down the pros and cons of each and assign them a score. Make sure to get names and remember them. Make your own good luck!

Now look what you've done, Chinatown is speechless,,o_O, I'm afraid it doesn't look good for you. Whether or not the vehicle you hit was or wasn't parked legally, it shouldn't matter, you should never hit anything, ever. You were in a very critical period, 1st couple months, and a new boss will think, what happens now could be a problem later. I can't sugar coat it, years ago, when you actually talked to the boss, chances are, they weren't angels either, but today, any infraction is a red flag. You don't have the luxury of explaining yourself. Usually, if someone made it to tractor trailer, it's highly unlikely you'd take a grunt job like food service or beverage. There are driving jobs that may not be as picky, but going to be one in a thousand. Best of luck.

I was OTR with Swift last summer for 3 months right after getting my CDL, I only had one “strike” left before I’d have been terminated from them and those were police reported accidents. So I had 2 accidents in 3 months!!

Around this time last year, I left Swift for XPO. I ran Line Haul ( learned how to hook sets etc, work the docks loading and breaking trailers ). Definitely the kind of money I want - sadly, being a new trucker eventually led to a termination after a whole year there. This time, I had mainly what I’d call “incidents” with their equipment. This wasn’t on Line Haul , but performing pickup / delivery work after already putting in nearly a full shift. Mainly got myself into some very messy close quarters maneuvering situations that went bad. 3 strikes- game over.

So yeah, I’m between jobs now and kinda shell shocked after putting in a whole year dedicating myself to succeeding at a job I actually wanted to keep.

Oh well. I’m taking a break before I decide to get behind the wheel again. I definitely need to process WTF the whole past year at XPO was all about.
