I have a question…why did you have to start with a bottom of the barrel second chance company like Western?

The place where you are yard jockeying, do they have their own trucks? Do you ever have to take the yard dog out on public road? If I were in your situation, my primary concern would be to establish a new safety record. If you’ve been doing that job for a year, and their insurance covers you, I would start there…especially if they have their own trucks and freight. I know you want OTR, but priority one would be just to get back into a tractor trailer. ANY tractor trailer.

If they don’t have their own trucks, whose trailers are you jockeying? Usually there will be some small regional fleet working alongside a mega carrier or two. I would aim for the regional company. They shouldn’t give a crap about that DAC Hireright nonsense, and the trucks should be cattleprod free. Worlds easier to drive without the cattle prods and handholding the megas do.

 

I recommend you drive like a professional.

Go find some local guys that need a CDL driver. I know it’s not as easy because it requires actually going in a talking to them instead of sending in a resume and waiting for an answer. Don’t just call on the phone, go in. Many small local companies need help and aren’t too concerned about driving record. Of course California may be totally different. I’ve never lived anywhere near it. New Hampshire is close enough.

Hmmm.....this is a tough one. I've heard of guys getting a warning on an inspection and still able to get hired. You made a boo boo so early. 23 over is a lot. Whether you get hired depends on how Western put it on your DAC, or how it appears on your license, or HireRight. I didn't see where you got a citation, so its probably not on your license. If the application doesn't ask for those details, don't say anything unless asked about it. If Western reported it as a violation of company policy, then you don't need to disclose unless necessary. The thing that I think is killing you is your lack of experience combined with a bad inspection.
