Case ready isn't a new concept , tyson ibp has had a case ready plant in council bluffs ia for about 20 years, it must be working for them because if you go in there to drop a trailer you will have a hard time finding a place to drop it because the place is so packed .
I wouldn't be surprised to see tyson convert the recently closed Perry IA pork plant to a case ready plant as the council bluffs plant was also a pork plant until tyson bought ibp , there's also few other smaller companies in this area that are case ready plants too.
Walmart now opening up case ready beef plants..

McDonald's is a big customer of JBS packing as well American foods group both companies have plants in Nebraska , Michigan and Wisconsin where they slaughter cattle that have reached the end of their useful lives in dairy and beef production .wore out, austinmike, broke down plumber and 2 others Thank this.

That makes sense. Although it does bring to mind some of the "end of their useful lives" cattle that I've taken to the sale. They were very near to the end of their useful lives. Like, near enough that I just hoped they survived the trailer ride to town and stayed on their feet long enough to make it through the sales ring.
Chinatown, cuzzin it, austinmike and 3 others Thank this. -
The 4 big packers ( JBS, National Beef, Cargill, Tyson) that have plants that process 3-6k head per day mostly process finished beef from feedlots. Most of the kill cow plants are smaller.

I was leased to PBX (part of IBP) when case ready was starting up. IIRC, Walmart was largely the reason.
They bought that plant in CB (Plumrose, is that right?) , and built new facilities in Ottawa, IL & Amarillo, TX. Maybe others I'm not remembering from 25 years ago (How the heck did I end up an oldtimer?) We loved them as it was palletized in and out with generally much quicker turnaround times than at a meat plant. And all the packaging made the outbound loads much lighter than a bulk meat load.austinmike and bzinger Thank this. -
Yes those loads are light I've pulled loads out of co. Bluffs that didn't even weigh 10k , plumrose was originally part of the co. Bluffs plant but is separate now, when that plant was built it was beefland then when it closed IBP bought and converted it into a pork kill ..I think in the late 90s was when they closed the kill floor and converted it to case ready .
Anyone remember American beef packers in Oakland ia ? They went bankrupt in the late 80s and it sat empty about 15 years until osi foods bought it and it now does case ready meat too.intrepidor and Hammer166 Thank this. -
I don't have a clue, I only know its hit or miss on explosions from the bowels with McDonalds.bzinger Thanks this.

I’m not anti-Walmart, I shop there. I’m a trucker don’t always have a choice…but I will say Walmart pretty much gets the leftover garbage produce and meat and they’ve been known to “sew” Steaks together. I’ll believe the quality when I see it. I still maintain the best quality meats and produce can be found at Costco.

That's complete bs on all counts. They get their steaks from the exact same supplier every other grocery store out there does, Tyson. I get case ready meat backhauls from the Goodlettesville Tyson plant almost every week. It's production line cutting and packaging meat and aint nobody got time for needles and threads.
