I am having a problem. A few times a day I go to start my truck which is a DD 15 and I hear a click noise. I will repeat the star process and most of the time it was then start.. I’m thinking it’s a failing starter, but I’m not sure. Has anybody had these types of symptoms??

I have a DD13 and it's not really a click it's like a thud thud thud, been doing it for a few year's now. Had starter checked and was fine, of course it never did it when being checked.

I click when I'm first trying to get started too.

But sounds like the starter relay clicking. On that truck, it's probably mounted onto the starter solenoid.

That doesn't mean the relay is the issue, it needs diagnosed, but that's probably what you're hearing

In the "olde" days, give 'er a rap with a hammer. Today, that would probably get you time in Alcatraz.

Are you turning the key to the on position for several seconds and then to the start position, or straight to the start position?

    Wargames Thanks this.

Turn the key to the ON position, count to ten then start it.

    Moosetek13 Thanks this.

First, check/CLEAN all the grounds, especially those going to the engine from the battery or frame.

Then if this doesn't fix it, replace the starter and the Magnetic starter switch.

Sounds like the starter solenoid is on it's way out but this is impossible to correctly diagnose over the internet. Could be wiring, corrosion, the switch etc etc.

Thx for the replies but forgot another symptom I’m getting which is if the wipers are left on it’ll click as well. Yes I do let the truck cycle before I start it. It’ll start with the a/c on but twice I’ve left the wipers on and again got a click. Turned it off and back on and it will start. Kljust don’t want be somewhere and it stops starting all together.
