Gladiator, you beat me too it, lol. I've never seen a 12 volt fridge, but I think that would be cool, no pun intended. That price tag is definately a deal breaker though. ####! I can't even afford a $100 coleman right now. My mentor had a coleman cooler on his truck and it worked great. When laid on it's side so the door opened up, you could stick a couple cans of soda or anything else right up next to the motor and it would freeze. My wife was concerned about these coolers only cooling to 40* below ambient temps, but I reminded her that in the warmer months when it is hotter than blazes outside, the A/C will keep it cool in the truck. During hometime, when I'm not in the truck, anything that needs to be kept cool will come in to the house.

As for the coolers going bad, I've heard that you can use a fan from a computer to replace the original one that went bad, and it even works better.

A decent mentor will provide some space for you to put your stuff and some food. He will also allow you to put stuff in his cooler. Shortly after going out with my mentor, we stopped at a Walmart and did some shopping. He did get a couple items to cook in his luchbox oven and he shared that with me. Was actually pretty good. Of course the majority of the time we did eat at the truckstops, either fast food places or a regular type restaurant. He even bought me dinner at Applebee's once. I had a really cool mentor.

That's what I'm hoping for is getting a good mentor. I have prior driving experience, unfortunately it isn't recent enough. I had a trainer at the first company I drove for, and he was really good. Hopefully I'll have that same luck this time.

Replacement fans can also be purchased from most radio shacks..for about $20 most of the time the one that needs replacing is the one on the outside..They are nothing more than cooling fans for car stereo amps. They come in all different sizes so better to have the old one to compare with..
It took me a quite a while to put the money together for my fridge...Had to wait for my first vacation check...but it was worth it...My second mentor had one and vowed that I would have one. Best part I was able to write it off my taxes...just like my laptop, broadband internet, satelite radio, and the list goes on and on...
Because it's not about how much you make but how much you can keep.

TA truck stops have a 12V refer. for 200.00 or you can buy a cooler type 12 v at wallmart for about 80.00

Amps times volts equals watts. So the 400 watt inverter draws about 25 amps from your 13.8 volt batteries equals about 375 watts. They frown upon higher wattage inverters hooked up to their trucks....

Pilot offers a small cooler for about $35. Holds 9 sodas. That's how I started. Later on shelled out the 100 for the food cooler and used the small one for drinks only. I used a 3 way splitter on the front power port to run small cooler, Sat radio and phone charger since all were light draws on power. Worked great.

Back in from 3 weeks out. I wanted to go out that long. I am home for 3 days and going out for a minimal time. My GF sent in the paper work to ride with me. She is considering driving with me. She would go to school where I did. She is a high school teacher so she is off in a week or 2.

So far I have been to 32 staes and DC. I did a grueling run from Daltile/Mohawk doing a live load in Muskogee OK. 2 stops in the Chicago area, 1 in Milwuakee, and the last in Green Bay. The time for the last one was 16:00. They actually stop receiving at 15:30. It was a Friday and they took me. I got there at 16:05. They close at 16:00! After I got unloaded I had 45 minutes left on my 70 hours.

I went to a truck stop that didn't take Comdata. I was bone dry! I dropped $20 of my own into the tank so I would have fuel for the Wabasto heater for my 34hr reset. Small mom and pop place that closed every night. Showers were $8 and they had a coin operated shower head! They give you $.50 back to operate the shower nozzle. I added an extra $.50 to get the extra long shower.

More later. Just got in at 3:30am. Time to cut the grass (3 weeks!)

They frown on any inverters, including a small plug in 100 watter from what I have been told.
