Detroit 60 Series 12.7 Fire truck engine

Mines a 1995 , but it's a GK. DDEC3. I was aware of a PK, I think it has the piston cooling nozzles. Not sure.

I don't see why you couldn't drop it in a truck. By your signature line - you're running a 2001 379 with a 14L Detroit in it currently?

 

IMO, the 12.7 is peppier than the 14L. If it’s out of a fire truck, pretty good chance it doesn’t have a Jake brake, so you will have to rebuild the top end. I know of other guys that have done it though!

 

Isnt or wasnt the Hot ticket to put the 12.7 head on the 14L block, get rid of the egr and set the hp around 550-600?

 

Fire truck engine power ratings are sometimes higher then a truck application. Bigger oil coolers and sometimes bigger sump capacity to handle the idle and pto time. Most of the big city units around here for the past 25 years have all had Jakes.

 

Seem to remember something about an “Aussie fire truck tune” when it came to CAT motors , being all the rage. Sounds familiar.

 

What is the engine Serial number

 

This depended if you had the DDEC4 EGR or DDEC5 the DDEC5 Egr engine didnt accept that head very well and even the ddec4 wasnt very successfull from a few cases ive been involved with
