Who are you kidding other than yourself ? Your implying that all drivers who don't run 2500+ EVERY week don't make those miles because they aren't pleasant folks. Do you really think all DM's are great people? Far from it.
That's great you have great luck at Knight. Ask your DM for a nice load to Atlanta and see how far a few pleasantries will get you out there. Atlanta loves drivers that never turn down freight. Otherwise nothing would get moved put of there.
My terminal manager was a compulsive lier and would throw his best drivers in front if a moving bus to save a dollar. My DM and I got along fine, I would often sleep on his couch when I was in the area. I didn't live near my terminal. The key being, he was very loyal to Knight and that does nothing for the success of a driver.
Why does Knight train? They train because they save money by not paying for expieriance. There are more than enough already safe and professional drivers out here that would help Knight become the best at what they do. The only minor problem is those drivers will not work for free.
Sorry but the majority of Knights drivers have less than a few months at the company. That's always been the case and that will always be the case.
OK, name the good things about Knight.

I see a trend here, if you drive for Knight in the East it sucks, if you drive for Knight in the West is Grrrrreat!!!!
LOL
Heck, did my last load in Red Bluff was able to reset in Paradise, CA just in time for Gold Nugget Days. Awesome, I have a house here. Already got my next three loads out of here as well.
I have no illusion though, I'm an employee for Knight. I dont have the responsibility a real O/O has. I drive, they pay me. Not to hard to figure.flash8515 Thanks this. -
Whoa Nelly..I wasn't trying to imply anything except the fact that I have been treated fairly. However, It seems at almost every Knight terminal I have been to and listend to most of the Knight drivers, they complain about one thing or another. Some legitimate and some not so much.
However, this forum isn't about the drivers I talk to at the terminals. I am responding to the posts that I read here. Am I saying Knight is perfect, No. But I have not worked for any other trucking companies to compare too as I am a newbie as you can see. The point I was making about being pleasant is there are a lot of grumpy ol drivers and they will tell you how they cuss out their DM on a daily basis and tell them over the phone how stupid they are, Im just sayin.
So as I sit there listing to these crusty old farts tell me about how they are a supertrucker and how they don't take crap from there DM, I wonder why they are sitting there in the terminal with no load.
The bottom line is every company ( Trucking ) has its good points and bad points. Good DM's as well as bad ones.
Every company also has its drivers that just can't be happy about anything.
And by the way, this post is about naming good things about Knight. All I am saying is my experiance has been a positive one and it sounds like I am in fact LUCKY.

You're just saying that 'cause it's true....knock it off and jump on the bandwagon.... -

Sounds like you have a good spot at Knight, from what I gathered from these boards, it varies greatly from region to region. Too bad that you don't know what you will end up until you are in too deep.

Ok Ok Big Don...I was generally lumping old farts and crusty's together. Every one needs a label. Mine is super newbie trucker. Ha Ha. Your right livinlife, it seems to vary greatly. So I will count my lucky stars to have what I have and let the rambling continue.
Everytime I look in the mirror I see spots...I need some glass cleaner! -
I must say, I am convinced that maybe 75% of the gripes I hear from other drivers are self inflicted. Everyone has there good & bad days. Now I am not of those touchy feely guys who has to find a rainbow at the end of the rainbow. I can only go from my own experiences out here and what I see and hear makes me say that.
Now we all know sometimes stories can be a little aggregated, but aggregated or not, the things I hear these drivers say that they say to their DM's makes me think they just might be causing their own demise.
I hear drivers complain that they are only getting 1000 miles per week, but in the next sentence they state they do drive past a certain area. The way I see it 11 western or not, if the miles are given, why turn them down. Im just sayin.
I know every driver has their own circumstances of why they do what they do, but I also know that I take what most drivers say with a grain of salt.
I have sat in the drivers lounge at a Knight terminal and listen to a huge story about a driver that has just been crapped on. Now as I listen Im thinking geeze, that sucks, ya I would pissed off too. Then wouldnt ya know it. im outside having a smoke and there are a couple of drivers standing in earshot away. Same story, but totally different and the guy telling it is the guy that it happend to and really wasn't what I heard inside.
Anyways. The same goes here in this forum as well. There are many pissed off drivers that are irritatated about something, But there is always another side to the story.
All I know is Im thirsty and Im gonna get a drink. Maybe a big glass of milk with a hair in it.livinlife Thanks this. -
When I first came to Knight I too heard all of the idiot stories "I don't go to Virgina....I don't go here....I don't go there blah blah" and thought "Oh this is going to be easy. Not hardly I encountered many dishonest people working within Knight. They would lie through their teeth about helping them out with some junk load because they figured they were talking to someone who would quit within a week.
Then the case of my terminal manager. What an idiot this guy was. Always telling you what you wanted to hear when discussing minor things like miles then hang the phone up and do the opposite. I never fought so hard in my life for the smallest W-2 in my eight years of driving than I did with Knight. I know we have put a dent in Knights hiring here on the Truckers Report and that in itself is refreshing to me. Call me what you want for being bitter but I DO NOT like dishonest people. You think all companies are dishonest? Ah you would be quite wrong.david07003 Thanks this. -
i just recently got out from under knight. i talked to a driver who recently did the same, he told me that in a year, he only made about 28K and he busted his hump for those guys, wouldn't turn down loads, "made loads get there" that prob shouldn't have etc. he said they call him on a constant basis, he told them "if i wanna make that kinda money i'll be a greater at Walmart and pick up a second job, at least i'd be home everyday"
he now works for a company that he gets all the miles he wants, is not stuck out places, etc. and this specific driver also told me that two of his buddies that worked there, when they put their two weeks in were told to clean out there trucks, when they did and went to a new company, on their DAC it said "quit under load" thats just low, the more i hear about this company from other drivers the less positive things i hear, i'm glad i got out. not saying the company i'm goin to is gonna be all peaches and cream but ####, i was only makin 350 maybe on a good run 400 a week, i can't live off that. plus them having me out a month and a half when they had the audacity to ask me how often i wanted to be home, plus not to mention the sorry excuse for mechanics they have. anyone who will ask me about this company i will tell to stay away from.Dna Mach, david07003, Big Don and 3 others Thank this.
