Do you have to log that entire day or at the point where the ELD took a bowel movement?

Go back to midnight and log whatever you were doing until the elog crapped out and then carry on.

You have to have the prior 7 days of logs so if your log department cant get them to you or your eld provider cant you have to recreate them on paper logs

You know what, this is on you. Before you even started the truck, you —>>> the driver is supposed to make sure you have explicit instructions on what to do when the eld goes down, in written form with paper logs.

The company is supposed to have an eld instruction manual, error list and the instructions on the paper logging, all in the truck and you, by regulation, have to make sure it is in there, you can not depend on your company to tell you what to do in a phone call. I think it is 395.34.

Well, they do because it's the law.
But to the original question, I would begin my paper log where my ELD left off. Someone suggested starting at midnight. Don't do that. Because if there's an overlap and your paper doesn't match the previous ELD data, you've got problems. Simply start logging when your ELD crapped out and you'll be fine.

Make sure you inform the company in writing that you are switching to paper and what the defect is with the eld. Has to be in writing, not just a phone call.
