My comments are assuming that there is nothing you are leaving out.

OK the exam was done inconsistent with FMCSA regulations.

It is that clear.

You do not need a doctor's letter to have approval to drive.

Mine would too, mine would call the examiner up and b***tch them out.

Nope, you don't.

Nope you don't need a letter unless there is a problem like Diabetis or other issues that were found during the exam.

SO here is my advice - to get this out of the way, do not go doc shopping, you already have a completed exam and if it is put into the system, it will cause you problems.

The second thing is do some homework, go to the FMCSA physical site and see if the person is even qualified to examine people for a DOT physical, if they are not, this is a problem for them and American Family Care.

I would then call the American Family Care corporate office in Birmington, Alabama. Ask to talk to someone for the person who is in charge of DOT physicals for their franchise holders. Tell them details of what happened and tell them you will not ask your doctor for any letter as demanded by the examiner and you want a resolution to this.

DO not get emotional, do not threaten, just be professional about it.

If they refuse to deal with this, then your next step is to file a complaint with the FMCSA and the state medical board.

And if the person is not on the qualified examiner's list, provide that fact to the FMCSA and state, they will act on it.

I will repeat this - YOU DO NOT NEED A LETTER FROM YOUR DOCTOR TO TELL THE EXAMINER YOU ARE FIT TO DRIVE, THAT IS THE EXAMINER'S JOB.

 

You don't need a doctors letter. No doctor in his/her right mind would sign a letter like that.
We know you didn't ask for more help, but you got it anyway.

 

I have type 2. Have had it for a few years. Not once have I been asked a note from my doc. Only get a 1 year card now but same #### different year.

 

Trust me, there’s always some quack that’ll give you a two year card, regardless of your medical status. Of course, that’s just something I heard from a friend.

 

Exactly what @Ridgeline said, my wife had a heart attack back in 22, she had to have a stint put in, she had to update her physical after she was cleared to go back to work. We used Fast Pace Urgent Care in Fountain City TN and they tried the same BS you're talking about, her heart Dr said he flat out would not write a letter saying she was OK to drive. 1. He already cleared her to go back to work and 2. It's not his job it's the FMCSA approved examiners job to do that because he has nothing to do with the FMCSA.
