Doing well. I’m home. Been here since Wednesday. I have my final consultation with the surgeon on Wednesday to put the surgery in place.
And what you said about LTL is spot on. I’m not knocking OTR, there are good ones out there, like IRT, I just think back to when I started in ‘79 and see where I’m at today, it’s a no brainer. It worked out just fine for me, but that saying about working smarter not harder sure is true.nextgentrucker, hope not dumb twucker and drvrtech77 Thank this. -
@nextgentrucker
Since you're young, want to make money, and finally have your year in, why not check in to food services like Cheney Bros, etc. Based on the website, Cheney Bros is hiring 2 delivery drivers and a shuttle driver right now for the PSL yard. The delivery driver spots would be a lot of work but better money than the shuttle position.
No, I don't work for them. I do a completely different local gig, paid hourly, minimal physical labor involved, and made $98,000 in 2024. As @drvrtech77 said, think outside the box and do what others don't want to do.nextgentrucker, hotrod1653, Speedy356 and 3 others Thank this. -
I’d like to hear more about something like John Boy does. Or any of the home daily good pay and benefits stuff.
nextgentrucker Thanks this. -
$145,000 last year on a 50hr work week being home every day. LTL is definitely where it's at in my book. I never see a shipper or receiver and do nothing more than just a meet and turn.

Nothing as far as actual border officers acting any differently. Haven't noticed anything with our customers or people I interact with otherwise. Having said that, I don't speak French so maybe they are calling me American scum to my face without me knowing it.

There has been a huge spike in Cranberry juice loads going into the US though. I suspect that US importers are trying to beat the tariffs by ordering as much as possible before the implementation. Once the tariffs begin, the consumer market will decide if they want to pay more for juice or not and things will level out. I can do well enough without the Canada loads so I am not worried about it.Last edited: Mar 29, 2025
nextgentrucker, Tanker_82 and 88 Alpha Thank this. -
Where do most of those inbound to Canada loads pick up at , Newark?
-
Most of the Orange juice we take to Canada gets loaded at the Port of Newark. It's actually Brazilian juice brought in by ship and then loaded on our tanks. There are the occasional Canada loads out of Wilmington DE also. Way in the past I hauled grape juice out of California into Toronto but that was years ago so I don't know if that still happens. I think there was Lime and Lemon juice out of Florida also, but I think that was originally imported from Mexico before it reached Florida.
It's kind of puzzling trying to figure out how they decide what to get from where. I have done crazy loads like Canola oil produced in Canada, shipped by rail to New Jersey, then we get loaded in NJ and haul it right back up to Canada.
Another oddball one is loading cream in VA, haul it to St. Petersburg FL, unload, then drive up the road to Publix in Lakeland, load cream there and haul it up to PA.

All it needs is a drop of Florida juice to be considered Florida Orange juice.Redtwin Thanks this.
