did this with 7018 on an old dump truck years ago it’s since been turned into a dump trailer that is pulled behind a farm tractor and if it’s not spilling over it ain’t full and still hasn’t broken

True and I don’t disagree that it’s better for a root since it penetrates better but it has a tendency to crack in over constrained and or fast cooling situations due to its fast freezing properties 6013 does not do this but is not known for penetration so you gotta grind more….just my .02

Forgot to add this is on 2014 Freightliner cascadia glider. Planned on using my mig machine to weld it up. Would you remove both axles as a precaution? Only have to weld an inch or two as of right now.

I wouldn’t personally, but I would do the obvious and leave the drain plug out

    Sons Hero Thanks this.

They are steel. Probably stamped in a press. Then the pieces are welded together. In this case you are welding over welds that are leaking oil through them.
Why is it leaking? Poor job in the first place or the axle has been over loaded and twisted?
What ever you can weld with well is probably fine.

Those are easier than the leaks between top of the housing and the spring. The housing can spider web. Welding that is futile. A 1/4 inch difference in the scheme of things no big deal. Plate those.
When doing those bad spring areas I put air to the vent hole. Very little with a thumb screw for a small paint sprayer type deal. Do not want to blow the wheel seals out. Then spray the area with soapy water.
Now before I post I read these other posts.
All the posts are great! You are at the top. No problem. V it weld it, rock on. No problem!
