Got a written warning from safety for having the visor down

....... WOW.......

 

How much of ‘######’ do wanna be? Me, if I got a written warning like that from the Safety Dept., I would respond with a written letter sent to the Safety Dept., via USPS Certified Mail, requesting a written, and signed by the CEO, Safety Dept. Operating Officer, with detailed list of all company, and equipment manufacturer installed equipment, that Drivers are forbidden to operate while the truck is in operation.

 

Yeah, safety does stupid stuff sometimes lol.

I was written up for not providing a remark ion the eld when I stopped to do a load check once. Just toggled it to on duty not driving, but didn't fill in a comment.

No big deal, I told safety if that was worth a write up they had better be sure not to forget something g simple either as it can come to bite them on the ##*.

By the linehaul sign in board, safety has a bulletins they need to update daily with the daily safety topic.

At least once a week no topic is posted. Some every time the safety officer that wrote me up was on duty and didn't happen to post a daily topic I took a picture and sent it to the safety department manager, advising that the topic wasn't posted.

Safety guy that wrote me up did not find the humor in this as he was getting crap from his boss for not doing his job. I found it hilarious. Eventually my boss asked me to stop so I did as he is a great guy. I still ask the safety guy when I see him if he still writes up stupid stuff

 

Or, you could tear the visor off it's mounting and throw it on the safety persons desk when you go to the terminal. Tell him/here. we won't be having that problem again. (SIC)

I'm surprised none of y'all mentioned the elephant in the room. Aren't these cameras only supposed to record an "incident"? Isn't that what they tell y'all? I mean, all of us who've been around just kind of snickered at that obvious BS designed to cut down on the squawking about inward cameras.

We don't run inward, but I know if I call the safety gal, she can pull up any recent footage from the outward. Not sure exactly how much it buffers, but you can bet the inward devices do the same. Record all the time, just flag and save footage around incidents. That's been a generic feature on consumer dashcam since their introduction, you really think newer generations of safety cams omitted a tried and true tech?

A friend moved to a company with the AI cams, overly intrusive doesn't even start to describe those. They've actually written up drivers for drinking Gatorade while driving. These are carhaulers, in Florida, that need to rehydrate throughout the day. They're expected to only drink when the brakes are set.

 

Do they get written up for picking their nose? Asking for a friend.

 

Things like this infuriate people, myself included. It’s their policy, their equipment, their choice. It’s your license, your time, your decision to drive for them.

I would be immediately looking for new opportunities, and probably calling in sick for a day or two to make myself available for phone calls and to submit applications. I wouldn’t mind driver facing cameras, if I felt they were going to be used appropriately. But it’s a disproportionate amount of freedom and privacy being traded.

Semis have been driven for decades with no cameras, so the only reason for a driver facing camera is to punish drivers. There’s almost no scenario where a driver facing camera will help a driver.

Eating, chewing gum, drinking coffee, smoking, vaping, yawing, stretching, drinking water, sneezing, blinking too long, and more are examples of distractions that can and will be used against you if the company thinks it will save them a single dime.

Loyalty to a company is fine, right up until it isn’t. Plus with the current economy companies are going to be looking for any excuse to fire drivers, rather hire less experienced drivers and pay as little as possible. My company doesn’t have driver facing cameras but if they did I’d be gone.

My Uber driver yesterday showed me his pay from 2024, 106,000 in a base model Tesla. Drove around 70 hours a week. Made roughly $30 /hr That’s a $30,000 car that costs about 30-60 a day to charge. Could get three full years out the car and still sell it for 10,000. Just food for thought.

I don’t support driver facing cameras, they only help corporations, there’s little evidence they improve safety any if at all, they will be used against you if you’re ever in any accident.

 

Meanwhile our boss put in cameras to reduce insurance cost but had shop put a piece of tape over inside portion even though he wasn’t paying for that part .
