It sounds like you want to live in your truck full-time. I’m not going to try to discourage you from that. However, I will say as someone who has done this for a few months at a time (no home time) it is very difficult and some companies will run you to death if you don’t take home time. They’ll assume that you never want any time off. So my advice is to be sure that you at least have somewhere with family or friends house where you can crash for home time occasionally.
24yo no-lifer, need company / newbie advice.

I actually managed to get a provision job offer for a local home daily job. Pay is 180 a load 1 load a day. Wondering what you all would say about this as far as an opportunity? M-F 6am-2pm hours sometimes work Saturdays
Seems like a pretty lucky opportunity but pay is pretty bad, amounts to about 45k a year. Good news is I confirmed that I can go home whenever I get back, and that the loads are all no touch, and if there is 23/hr detention pay as well. Health insurance is mainly covered by the company but the good plan would be about 25 a week. 5k sign on bonus even for me as a new student as well, paid out over 4 months. 90 days for benefits. Can get trained without having to sleep in a night cab with some random trainer.
Considering it as a starting point, it would be nice to get 6mos-1year of experience doing home daily if needed, and if I want more I can move to OTR at that point, then I would be able to skip a lot of the "training" periods that companies require of new graduates.FullMetalJacket Thanks this. -
Yeah, thats not bad to get started. After a few months you can move on to something better, or UP if that company has something to promote you to.
FullMetalJacket and Spartananator Thank this. -
Welp I passed my CDL test, and im now a fully licensed CDL-A driver, unfortunately the local-route job decided to not move forward with me after collecting all my info (not the best sign, but they also "didnt have any specific reason")
Melton is still wanting me, reached back out to Prime Inc as well. A small company based nearby also offered me a position but they are putting me off with their "were a christian company and we will take care of you" spiel plus being super pushy and trying to sell having health insurance as a "major benefit"
Applying to werner as well since i hear they have a good pet policy.MSWS, FullMetalJacket and Chi Town Steers Thank this. -

As a follower of Jesus Christ, I'll tell you to be very cautious about a "Christian" company. All too often, the more noise they make about it, the more likely they are to be wolves in sheep's clothing.
Sons Hero, Sirscrapntruckalot, lual and 4 others Thank this. -
Now, that said, of the companies you listed, and without knowing what the smaller outfit is, and again, if you don't mind flatbedding for a while, Melton would be your best bet. I'll tell you right now they're not the best about sometime (i.e. you may not get thru the house every weekend) but they have good equipment, good training, and they're also one of the few starter megas I hear no drama about.
With that being said, I half-remember you saying you live in KY, right,? I don't know if they take new grads, but check into Kivi Bros. They're based up on Minnesota but (last I knew) they also have a terminal out in Harrodsburg, sorta by Lexington...Truckermania Thanks this. -

Definitely depends on the individual.AAllgood, Sirscrapntruckalot and lual Thank this.
