Thinking of Carrying My AR in the Sleeper—Legal or Nah?

But back to the topic at hand.

Anybody who says there ain't enough room in a truck to use a rifle has lost their mind. Go to any dirt road in this country and within 45 minutes some 14 year old out the passenger side of Ranger is plunking critters.

If you can't handle a rifle from inside your sleeper berth it's because you can't handle a rifle at all.

And no driver in their right mind is leaving anything of significant value in easy to get spots to be stolen by mechanics or whoever. Most drivers will go there whole career with never having a single thing stolen from their cab.

And most important of all...

My pistol is only there so I can get to my rifle.

 

We're just truck drivers dude....

 

I found this thread hilarious, thanks guys for the entertaining read. On a side note I have a ar 9mm pistol with an 8" barrel that excepts glock mags, that is my" truck" gun. However since the most dangerous place I go is middle of nowhere ND it stays in the gun cabinet with everything else, I have a scabbard, I'd guess you call it, that it slides in on my the bedside of my sleeper, when I go otr I despise staying in truck stops, so usually end up at the receiver or some random commercial area and have stayed in some sketchy areas in Chicago and other cities. If I have it in my truck I also carry a lockable bin to put it in and keep the mags separate if I have to. One of the reasons I bought that gun, besides it is probably the funnest gun to shoot I have ever shot, is a true SHTF moment where I am trying to get home, but I still don't carry it in the truck normally because I don't want to have to explain crap if I get inspected.

 

Amen! What amazes me, is troll or not, this to some may be an accepted way of thinking. I got out of trucking ( 2005) when I felt it may be necessary to carry some sort of weapon, after practically 30 years of not having to worry about such things, but figured the job wasn't worth it. Thanks for your level headed reasoning that I'd like to say cancels out this person, but I fear we're losing that line of what's acceptable or not.

 

That was my first thought when I read the OP. I've got a 120" sleeper and there's not that many places I could store the AR that was readily accessible and ready to go vs. having a pistol tucked behind the passenger seat.
