Hey Hazmat drivers, I was wondering if food grade tanker experience is valid to hazmat tanker(Chemical,Fuel,Cryo) carriers.
Is it a valid route to start food grade to get experience and then transfer to hazmat tanker when you can get the hazmat endorsement?
Does Food Grade Count?

Yes.

Connections and methods will be different BUT driving a un-baffled tankwagon would be a positive for consideration.
Depends on the carrier and their willingness to train.
Even more important would be the carrier's attitude towards proper use of PPE [personal protective equipment] which is the most important difference.
PPE is worthless sitting in the duffel bag!Flat Earth Trucker, ducnut, Numb and 2 others Thank this. -
Why wait to get your endorsement, but food grade can be hazmat, but not necessarily.
For instance depending on the percentage Vinagar can be hazmat and quite dangerous, as is perxiode.Alot of the haxmat loads are simply battery, spray paint, drain cleaner, etc.... Bulk Hazmat is different.
Hazmat means Hazardous to the enviroment not necessarily to humans. but it certain can be both.
Pulled a tanker liquid and powder for 20 years.Flat Earth Trucker and TruckDriver87 Thank this. -

Carry lots of empty gallon bottles to fill with wine. No reason for the tank wash crew to get it. Leave the hose full when you're through unloading, then later, somewhere, fill your empty bottles with wine.JB7, TruckDriver87, Flat Earth Trucker and 2 others Thank this.
