What are you talking about? You don't give up any more individuality than at any other job. I worked at a union grocery store, and a non union restaurant, still had to wear uniforms, got scheduled the same. Still had to follow the procedures and rules. Any individuality I had or didn't have was the same.

Had a busy week week fixing all the stuff on my wife's vehicles. Now back to my easy job (as in being a truck driver). Leave out in the morning picking up in Jax going to Dacula, GA for 4 am Tuesday, then head to McDonough to pick up (at Americold) going to Henderson, NC for Wednesday afternoon. Not the stellar start @drvrtech77 got, but with me starting out on a Monday, a series of short runs might add up to be an acceptable paycheck.
hope not dumb twucker, hotrod1653, Lonesome and 3 others Thank this. -

"Bob" was an train driver. There was some kind of signal issue - Bob went by the book, which caused a ripple of delays through the entire market. Management fires Bob. Union goes to bat for Bob, while he's waiting Bob starts driving truck. A year later Bob gets his train job back, with back pay. That's far more than his union dues. Add in higher pay and better benefits, union dues result in some very tangible benefits.
Two years ago, Schneider changed their pay structure "to simplify things". Accessory pay went away, all on duty time pays out at $10 an hour, and a annual bonus of 2% was added. It was designed to be a wash - pay should stay about the same. In reality, it ended up cutting driver pay by 2-3%. I would argue more, because in order to get paid detention a driver has to log on duty - so do you reduce your available work time and get paid $10/hr or do you conserve it so you can do more loads? We weren't given any choice. The Transport (union) guys were asked to move to the new pay structure, they chuckled and said "no".
I've got no love for unions, but I recognize their need in the economy. -
Been driving since 1998, the second time. Been union the last 11 and a half years. Wouldn't go back to non union, too many benefits. Do I like the teamsters? No, but I like my paychecks. On the clock 45 to 47 hours a week and hit $2600 and change a week.

Apparently they have decided to change their shop pay and not tell anyone and essentially now you have to be in the shop more than 12 hrs and don’t matter what shop it is before they start paying and and your shop time doesn’t start till after the 12th hr..
