English Speaking Drivers Is The Law

They do now. When I got mine in 2011 the book stated on the first page must speak, read, and understand the English language in order to operate a Commercial Motor vehicle.

 

That's a little to vague though because just as tariff negotiations are occurring the transportation of goods need to go back and forth via the border. The simplest solution would be to bring the English Proficiently Testing to Canada and exclude Quebec. Then the problems will be solved on both sides of the border! Problem solved,!

Where I live, you can't even get an actal regular driver license without being somewhat fluent in the local language. I think there was a time in the US where it was just assumed that everyone was fluent in English, but with all the scummy carriers and businesses trying their best to cut costs and pinch corners, they've been more than happy to import cheap labour from abroad - no matter what language they speak - and are also more than happy to blame the people they brought to the US when they're caught red handed.

I very much agree…. And it’s common sense. If a driver can’t tell what is on the signs they can’t make safe decisions at all. It was a really dumb unsafe move on fmcsa’s part to stopped enforcement.
