I think we need to outlaw trucks. You wanna buy something just go drive and hgo straight to manufacturing company.
how they get products to build anything? who cares, not our problem!
If they get there way with this i can see a mass exodus from this industry enmasse.

Yeah, this is a toughie. I can't watch the video, I don't need to carry that families anguish with me through the day. The absolute bottom line in all this, and easily forgotten when a tragedy strikes, WE CAN'T HAVE ZERO RISK( shouting) You step on that plane, you hop in your car for the 800th time, you can't forget, these things are still guided by human beings. In our technical age we live in, we seem to forget we aren't machines, and this will continue to happen, until we are machines, I suppose. I think the "mass exodus" has come and went, and sadly, this is what is left.
To be crystal clear on this,,,we have some great drivers, rack up BILLIONS of safe miles. In a country this size, that can apparently do without 188,000 trucking companies( 2023) this is what's left. So. just curious, what happened, truck rear ended a family mini-van? Again? There is nothing that will prevent that from happening, it's a dangerous world we live in. I only hope that soccer game or whatever, is worth the risk today.
Okay, curiousity did get the best of me, and in the 1st 3 seconds, "Bonehead Truckers", I immediately turned it off. Don't listen to this Hollywood fabricated bullplop.hotrod1653, broke down plumber, Gearjammin' Penguin and 3 others Thank this. -
When I think about the problems facing the trucking industry and the apparent solutions, I almost always think about the Martin Niemoller poem. I am not going to post it, but I will link to it LINK
Another problem is scenes like the one in TOPGUN after the guys get chewed out for buzzing the tower. Goose mentions a truck-driving school. I won't link to that scene because of profanity.
I spoke to a fleet owner recently who told me that parking a truck costs him more $$$ a day than paying extra for high-risk insurance to hire a warm butt in the seat.
At 67 I have memories of trucking going back to the 1960s. I can't tell all the stories I remember sitting beside my father at the old Goldmine Truckstop on I-85 near Carnesville Georgia back in the 1960s. Drivers coming in and out giving the waitress heck in the process. There was a waitress that worked at the Petro truckstop across the road who all the way into the 1990s remembered my dad as well as his CB handle.
^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^ This world of trucking is forever gone! These old timers are mostly gone now. My dad passed in 1997. With them also went the golden age of trucking.
While there are parts of this job I miss, when it comes to all the crap I rather------

What if…..instead of cameras in trucks….. they just make it so phones and tablets are locked if they are in motion? That would solve a huge issue with all drivers across the board.

Most hazmat haulers already have cameras staring at us all day. Don’t love it, but it’s not the worst thing in the world. That same family probably drives down the road while texting and everything else everyday. They can F off. Things happen.
