Look right below the center cam follower box, BIG CAM should be raised up in the block casting. The truck in my profile pic was a 1977 and had a big cam 1 with that casting.

    BoxCarKidd Thanks this.

Does someone keep records of the rebuilds?
If yes how do you find that info out?
Is there a way to get a new data plate for the motor once I figure everything out?

    Yep, both small cam.

It’s a fact that only small cams have a compression release, which is clearly visible in the picture.

Engine laying on the trailer is small cam as well, I can see the cam follower boxes.

There’s more 400 Cummins in the world today than Cummins ever originally built. Some are BS stories by someone trying to sell the engine, and then there’s true updated versions like the 315 hp big cam in my W9, which I rebuilt to CPL 625, with air to air, Holset HT60 turbo and injector and pump mods.

I don’t know the cpl off the top of my head, but Cummins did build a 420 small cam…..

    Thanks for the info
    They supposedly are CPL 160
That doesn’t mean the parts are interchangeable though correct?
    One is a 76, one is a 77
They look completely different to me
The pipe crossing the top of motor from turbo to motor top was damaged in the move
Anyone know what this part is called
