ELD LIVE TRACKING/HIGHWAY??? Brokers locked me out.

Its true.

I had to deal with them this week and its like jumping through hopes. Its a super discouraging situation but patience is needed when speaking to the agents. Many haven't patiences even though they say, 'take your time' I remember back in February with another issue occurring. Probably lost $20k that month trying to fix the highway issues over the phone connecting with the Brokers.

Now they just email mainly when communicating. However, if they email you instructions, and the issues don't reflect their correction they ignore you when try to rectify the problem. All you can do is wait a day or so and start the process again with another agent so eventually it will fix the problem.

Just got a call from Rock, MI, only answered cause I’m waiting on a call from who knows what number back to a door.
“This is yada yada calling from Highway, showing you’re picking up a load tomorrow and dropping same day, can you give us that trucks last 6 of the vin so we can let the customer know…?”

me “No.you have my elog, plus the load is being tracked. It doesn’t load til tomorrow I am not giving my vin out over a phone.”

first time they’ve done this. And I’ve hauled for these people before they went to Highway, and never have asked me that, why not truck/trailer number? And who gives out all this information?

 

I figure, I told her give me her personal number I was driving and didn’t know the vin, I’d call back when I had time. She hung up.

 

Still not doing the highway game and still doing fine. We will see how long David will last against Goliath.

 

I don’t care if they track elogs/the elog in the truck, whatever.
But I’m not giving out my license number, or truck full vin number to anything.
But guess what, highway going through elog is supposed to see the trucks vin through the elog.

My 2 cents? Maybe controversial. Brokers love highway too much for anything to get better anytime soon. They'd rather reject 100 of us accidentally and avoid one double brokerage, at least the way the market is right now.

Used to be Garmin was fine, or one of the others was fine but you just didn't provide the API, and only worked with guys that didn't require your ELD data. I don't think that's realistic anymore. THey like it too much, it validates the number of trucks, validates that youer' in plausible range of the job. We're all gonna have to start providing ELD logins

The issue right now is that most ELDs don't let you customize and track what you give Highway / whoever. It's just on or off. Motive and Samsara are good about letting you switch it on and off easily but you don't konw what data they're taking from you, how many times a day they're asking for it, etc... need the ELDs to catch up and give some more control back, tell us what they're asking for, let you shut off parts of it and only give location... at least try to limit what data they can go and sell

But dont' hold your breath for a carrier-led class action / revolution
