To put it in simple terms, the guy most likely operates junk, if you as a driver care, and bring it to his attention, he’ll more than likely to tell you “just run it”, bad tires, no AC, marker lights out, the list goes on. Why would you or anyone else want to work for a man that doesn’t care? It will eventually make your life miserable.
I found a job on Craigslist, but it’s not what you think

It'll be on your PSP and you'll be blamed for not doing a proper pretrip by anyone involved and by everyone who pulls that report in the future. Employers, lawyers, juries, law enforcement etc etc will blame you.7speed, D.Tibbitt, Chi Town Steers and 3 others Thank this.

He's got masochistic tendencies coupled with no self confidence nor self respect.Rugerfan, Chi Town Steers, Long FLD and 1 other person Thank this.

And the separation between driver and steering wheel holder commences....
you either know what you are doing or you dont.
Not every company can afford new equipment but that also doesn't mean you have to drive unsafe equipment.
You should know your stuff, what you are driving and how to determine if you are safely operating your equipment.
these companies exist, its just fact of this industry.
Its always easier to get a job while you have a job already, so even if you cant drive because of safety concerns you are employed and should be able to find another gig easier.
thats just me though, but Ive been driving awhile and can spot faulty equipment or even make repairs on the road.
So I guess my advice isnt for everyone.Chi Town Steers Thanks this. -
Those guys are happy that they have a place that will hire them because they can't go anywhere else. I guarantee they have horrible records or they're addicts.
You can pretrip all you want but DOT will be on them like white on rice. I promise you that every inspection they will find something.
Every time you find something on your pretrip the carrier is not going to fix it. You will have to refuse to drive the truck. How many times do you think that's going to fly? They will force you to drive or quit and/or they will fire you.
By then you won't be able to get another job unless it's with another dirtbag carrier and the cycle will continue and will get worse each cycle.Last edited: Jul 4, 2025
Chi Town Steers, gentleroger, hope not dumb twucker and 1 other person Thank this. -
I agree with you. My initial thought was "it you want to do it, do it - just watch your six". However some honey pots are so riddled with disease that even coming within 10 feet will require 6 months of penicillin.Sirscrapntruckalot, D.Tibbitt, H3R3T1C and 2 others Thank this.

I'd still work there.
As other alternatives, those 4 reefer outfits I posted and Tesla are all good.hope not dumb twucker and Chi Town Steers Thank this. -
Man I'm feeling torn on this one right now. I definitely see all the points every one is making. I don't have that sickly feeling in my gut at all tho, doesn't feel like I need penicillin. But then again, I don't know what I don't knowD.Tibbitt and hope not dumb twucker Thank this.

I feel confident in my pre trip ability, but I've only driven freightliners that are less than 5 years old, so I might not have the full skill set required to do a competent pre trip on some of the older trucks he may have. But I would get a truck assigned to me, so I would just have to learn that one really. Don't know what kind of truck that would beD.Tibbitt, hope not dumb twucker and H3R3T1C Thank this.

Should I flip a coin?
