Totally off topic here @supersnackbar but I recall you saying your wife is involved in the farmers market locally, have yall noticed the quality of watermelon this year has been pretty lack luster? I’ve bought roadside, farmers market and Publix and most are lacking, a buddy of mine was commenting the same thing on 4 melons he bought.

You say you don't want to only make $80k, but idk if general otr reefer/dry van youre going to make much more than that. While I get your frustration with some of the loads, between the tariff shenanigans impact on the supply chain, which is hopefully leveling out, then this last week being after a holiday, you trying to get home to Florida, and your asset manager being new, I would give him some chance to be good. I think you get way to worked up about those "safety" messages though. Idk how much is just venting, and yes theyre annoying, but just roll your eyes and move on with your day. Not everyone has 30yrs experience. Now my big reason for wanting to leave, is Im tired of not having a life. The reason I haven't left is unless I can get a drastic increase in work/life balance, I don't see the point. Also, given where im expecting the economy to go, I know shaffer owns everything outright, and im hoping they have enough contract freight to get me a load or two. Hopefully you get things figured out.

I was making over $80k 5 years ago. Hell, I was making $90k+ here 3 years ago. They advertise that the top 50% make over $92k, so, are they lying and false advertising? As far as the excuses for why freight isn't where it should be, 1st it was Easter, then it was Memorial day, now it's the 4th. And the terriff crap shouldn't have much of an effect on our business, we don't do that much import/export freight.
As far as the new guy, it's SOSDD (same old ####, different dispatcher). The planners are doing the same thing to his drivers that they did to the Princess' drivers. I have given every dispacher the same option when it comes to my hometime, it is ALWAYS flexible. Productivity comes first. But yet, when delivering raw materials to a Hershey facility, where they had outbound loads, cost wise, it is cheaper to reload a driver that delivered there rather than deadhead him out, and deadhead someone else in. It's smart planning, that their computer analytics algorithm should have figured out. But instead of that, they deadhead me all the way north of York to pick up a load to GA that doesn't deliver until 3 days later. This dispatcher may end up being a good productive dispatcher, eventually, but I am tired of getting the short end of the stick when it comes to loads. A short under productive load once in a while is just trucking, it happens. But that needs to be offset by a fair amount of productive loads and this dispatch's driver board isn't getting them. And since he is new to this position, how much sway is he gonna have with the planners to change that. Hell, 2 hours before my delivery yesterday, I had to prompt him to find out what they had me doing after I drop so I wasn't sitting up there wasting time. That's one of the 1st things dispatch 101 training should teach new dispatchers. He may well end up being good at this, but I don't have the patience or the resources to endure his OJT at his new position, I need to see a productivity increase, and with his inexperience at this, I can't wait around to see it happen.hotrod1653, cdavis188, hope not dumb twucker and 2 others Thank this. -
See one thing I see that you have a problem with is this you haven’t even given this guy a chance literally almost immediately. Oh, he’s not doing what I want first of all he’s gotta get accustomed to his drivers on his board and sit there and figure out each driver’s running pattern… Basically it doesn’t matter where you go and I’m being bluntly honest the same thing is gonna happen to you… You almost expected like this guy took over on Monday by Tuesday. He better be running the hell out of you like he’s known you for 10 years… Good luck wherever you go..gentleroger and hope not dumb twucker Thank this.

Why? You could crack $100k without even trying. Beats hauling freight where nobody respects you or your time. What you're complaing about is beyond the control of your dispatcher. A new one or more experienced one ain't gonna change that. Crete doesn't have sufficient freight to cater to what you want. Truckload freight is oversaturated with carriers and drivers that's the market you're in. We're dispatched by AI and when we got fresh hours after a break there's always work, 24-7-365. Paychecks don't vary much either.IH9300SBA, High Stepper, Speed_Drums and 4 others Thank this.

New hires at Walmart don't make over $100k, especially at the small DCs like the one I live near. Plus, they slip seat initially, and I haven't slip seated since '95. And Creaffer learned to micromanage from Walmart. They used to mirror Walmart in a lot of policy and business practices. Hell, the last I heard, Walmart does not allow drivers to use their phone(with a hands free device) while driving, and wants access to your phone usage to verify.hope not dumb twucker and Lonesome Thank this.
