I survived with only a few bruises,an no sleep.
Well I was desperate for a job,and got hired by this owner op leased on to ceva ground. His name is Milton and he has a 05 classic white freightliner.( no problem,Ive driven long nose trucks before) I just dont like them. But with a long nose the truck, IT should ride better( not the way he drove)
This guy was suppose to pick me up in march. While in route to get me;he had a rear end collision with another semi east of little rock AR. (Ok,accidents happen)At 1st he said" I just could'nt stop, then the story changed to "oh I stopped but the other truck behind me...pushed me into the truck in front of me.
Pickup was pushed out to 3 weeks later. This guy caught a greyhound bus from Ohio to Little Rock AR to pick up his truck when it was done.(strange, why did'nt he just rent a car? Maybe he wanted to save money)
When this guy did pick me up,we loaded my stuff, all 6 bags.(I down sized, I normally have 12) He said"here you can use the upper two shelves". 2 upper shelves! I needed the entire right cabinet.
He wants someone to team with, but doesnt give them any room to put the bags.So they ended up on the upper bunk.
Milton said he cleaned up the truck, maybe the outside. The inside Was filthy.Good thing I brought a giant container of antibacterial wipes.I started to use them right away. The floor was covered in dirt, and everything had a black/brownish sticky layer of cigar film.I told him before ever getting into the truck that I have asthma. He never smoked around me(that was thoughtful).
While driving down the road,I noticed how he tailgated every. There was no discrimination between cars or semi's.(I just hope'd he would'nt have another accident)We arived in Ohio later that night,I took the bottom bunk he took the top.Around 12midnight I got up,this guy rolled over a passed gasright at my head, dang!! (what? is this a war zone,it felt like it was)He said that he is in the military, and has drill 3 times a month.More like the army reserves,I seriously doubt, that the military would send a guy to the front lines with diabeties/using insulin.
He has 3 bottles in his truck refrigerator. My mom's a diabetic,an that stuff is expensive.I dropped him at his house,an took a load to TX by myself(great).I did a local run, then got a ld back to Ohio. The clutch in the truck doesnt work very well( no problem I dont need it)Then I noticed the transmission wasn't catching in gear( no wonder he was starting out in 1st gear all the time, even bobtailing."I asked him,why dont you skip"? he stated this transmission isnt designed to skip. Its a 13 speed. He would also keep the jake breaks on constantly.I timed it,on a flat stretch he used the jakes every 3 miles.(How am I suppose to sleep?)
Here's where the hell starts.I only got 5 hrs of sleep(that last run I did was a team run.)So while I was trying to rest MIlton drove. He was driving crazy;because" he didnt want to be late"Im sitting on the bed.The next thing i know,he's slamming on the breaks trying not to hit a car thats trying to turn. And im trying to get traction with my feet to keep from landing on the floor an hitting the dash. After milton stopped he looked back to see where I was. Im ok!! (you dumb ###)
So, after he gets the load,I figure ok hopefully he'll drive better now NOPE! no such luck.Im lying on the bed( he would'nt let me use the fishnet,so I wraped my wrist around it.)This guy hit the breaks hard 7 times in a 200mile streatch.Wrist burn!!Ya no the fishnet would'nt have worked,I needed a body harness, with a padded 2 by 8 inch board at the end of the bed (kinda like what babbies have in the crib)Im not a baby, I was just thinking of way's not to end up on the floor. Just before I got to my home;this guy took a exit circle ramp at 45 mph when the speed was 25mph with a loaded trailer!!.Out of the upper shelf flew a can of pinnapple, missing my head by inches an hitting my leg.He turned around"what was that! your can of pinnapple".I replied."oh sorry" Grrrrr.
Finally home.I told milton this teaming thing was'nt going to work.I cant sleep through a 8.5 earthquake. Actualy Im a light sleeper.
After 2 1/2 weeks at the house,I asked milton"when am I going to be payed? He just gave excuses;then I recieved a hand written account of the 3 loads that I did from his wife.He told me that I was to be payed 32 cents per mile. This hand written crap stated 18 cents per mile WHAT AN INSULT!! WHAT A LIAR/CHEAT/THEIF. An do you think they would send me a check for the $40.00 (I was smart enough to get 2 $200. cash advances)they said they still owe me,nope nouthing.According to my figures I was still owed $473.00.
Anyone going to work for this guy Milton S dont.He lies repeatedly, and has money problems.I heard him talking on the phone about all his credit cards being maxed out.Thats not my fault. Well, with CSA2010 he wont be driving much longer.Im not to upset thou, atleast Im not In his shoes.

Sounds like you were put through the blender, Brenda. It's a shame you ended up in that situation, with your experience. But sometimes we gotta do what we gotta do,
I have dealt with my share of liars and thieves over the years and have had to ride with somebody I learned to despise real quick.
I know it's not much of a consolation, but it's over with now. I know it sucks to know you will never get the rest of your money.
Maybe your bad luck is over for a while. I hope something much better is in your future. Usually the good things pop up when you least expect it. -
Look at the big picture: you're better off out of that truck, judging by your narrative. Chalk it up to bad experience and thank your lucky stars you're still around to tell the story... I won't team with anybody for that very reason, because I don't want to be dragged into a wreck by some incompetent driver. I used to drive for an outfit with 90 m.p.h. trucks (we hauled hazardous waste clear across country, including Class 3 & 4---go figure, you'd think those trucks would be cut back the hardest), and some driver fell asleep with the cruise set at 80 with another driver in the sleeper... killed half a dozen people when he crossed the median and slammed head-on into two four-wheelers one night. He joined those people when he flew through the windshield after the truck bottomed out in a ditch... wasn't wearing his seat belt, of course, and he was a big heavyset guy. The only one to survive was the dude in the sleeper, as he had buckled that funky web belt before going to sleep... even still, he was all f____d up, and that incident simply reinforced my commitment to solo operation. Sure, ya hafta team for a while at the outset, and I'm thankful that I had a decent trainer, but I'll never go back to teaming... that tractor gets mighty small with two people on board! As far as I'm concerned, I'm the only carbon-based life form in that truck, with the occasional exception involving a friend riding along as a passenger... I don't mind doing that, but I'll be ###### if I die just because some fool drives off a cliff or into head-on traffic after falling asleep at the wheel. I've heard plenty of similar horror stories from drivers, but that one incident really hit home because I actually met that driver who died, since we both worked for the same outfit... one week he was there at the company office, then he was history, never to be seen or heard from again.
Dial Tone Thanks this.
