So my Garmin I've had for years is finally starting to crap out. I got a stopgap for the mean time (an even older Garmin unit) but it's not a feasible option long term. I use it less for actual navigation and more for situational awareness and to calculate accurate ETA's for dispatch.
I know there's only 2 real players in the market. Rand McNally came out with a new line of GPS's not too long ago i believe. Should I stick with the devil i know or would a RMN be better?

I use the Garmin DEZL 700… I’ve had mine for several years and have not had any issues with it… This one is actually like a small tablet and has the ability to download new map software annually and software updates multiple times a year from my phone
hope not dumb twucker and cdavis188 Thank this. -
Unless you have compelling new info or other evidence that RM has recently improved their GPS build quality -- I would stick with a Garmin product.

I've always used a rand but too each their own.

I grabbed a refurbished Garmin OTR1000 from Amazon a couple weeks ago.
Yes it is a version of 2 behind but that's OK with me. The large screen works well for me and my "progressive" eye glass prescription.
2 minor complaints
1) the charger is a USB-B not the now standard USB-C
2) small memory so the map update deletes current map to make room for new one. There is a empty SD Card slot so you can supplement the memory up to 256GBhope not dumb twucker Thanks this. -
I got 2.5 year old rm 1050 it’s a 10 inch screen. I’m pleased with it. Pretty reliable, biggest complaint is the mount. The one mount has 3 plastic tabs that will break off in 2-3 weeks. Just file a warranty claim, and they sent a replacement plus one that screws into a mount to mate to a ram mount setup. That’s better but one of the magnets just fell out. Lasted a long time though. But can’t buy that particular one. So I gonna try a ram x grip. That’s my biggest complaint. I update the maps whenever I’m on hometime and seems to be good. It’s still behind on some truck stops though. Like a pilot that has turned into a one9. It’ll show it as a pilot. And some new truckstops don’t show up, but I use the free version of trucker path to help plan for stops, so isn’t that big of a deal.

The new Rand McNally real time live traffic updates like Google Maps, Co-Pilot and Trucker Path. I'll probably spend the $300 some time next month to replace the one I got with the last Covid 19 Stimulus.
