the early ones are the worst , took gm like 5 or 6 yrs to fix . Northstars came out in 93 i think . Hollar at your mechanic they'll tell ya better . I know gm took a hit because of it , engine got a bad rep , 4.6L dohc paperweight .

From the picture, that one has a 4.9 in it.
A well sorted engine by then. A few gremlins, the waterpump replacement will have you cursing.
They do use wet liners in an aluminum block. Clean fresh coolant is vital..
That is a dam nice car.

The northstar does not have a rubber oil pump belt. Northstar is an amazing engine, especially after a good tech fixes the defects GM created.
I started at the cadillac dealer in 94. Worked on a ton of em.
I was the 1st tech in western Canada to have the heads off a northstar. I was a 18 year old apprentice, the foreman hoped I would screw it up so he could toast me. I was there 20 years longer then him lol.

Thanks for the info guys. I'll try to verify the engine this evening.

Not sure if it would help identify, but it looked like it had a throttle body, and it said V8 PFI.

(Names have been changed to protect the innocent)

Jack and Jill have been in a relationship for a year. Jack is a fleece driver and hasn’t seen a paycheck in a month. Jill has a 10 year old daughter named Jen from a previous marriage to Zach who is abusive and controlling.

Jill is returning home with Jen when all the dash lights kick on and the car dies. She calls Jack who is 2500 miles away. Unable to get assistance, Jill feels forced to call Zach. Zach comes out with a gleam in his eye and Jill knows she’s going to have to endure some humiliation.

Suddenly, WornOut appears. Jill has seen him before and has been told by Jack and all of his friends that Worn is the Antichrist. Worn watches Zach get nervous and Jill needing help but scared. Worn walks across the street, buys an alternator and has Jill up and running in 15 minutes. Jill promises to somehow pay it back, but Worn is old school and tells her to pay it forward. Jill makes him promise to come over for dinner when Jack gets back. Worn is good with home cooking.

Worn hasn’t seen or spoken to Jill since repairing her car. He shows up for dinner and Jack is insecure. Jack gets drunk and belligerent, hits a brick wall and breaks his hand. Worn has seen this movie before and decides to leave. Jill apologizes profusely. Next day, Jack shows up and sees Worn at the truck stop and apologizes for bad behavior.

    What should Worn do differently?

If I were this Worn fella I probably would have avoided the whole situation. There's a man already there, no sense sticking my nose into it unless the woman is in immediate danger.

I definitely would not show up to dinner at her place, period. It is disrespectful to her current man. I know I would definitely end a relationship on the spot if a woman I'm dating invited another man to dinner. To me that is breaking a boundary.

How about if said invitation was also extended to Mrs. “Worn”, assuming for the moment that there is one?

Worn replaces alternator and bids the entire situation farewell.

Done it a few times. You just help out where you can and move on.

    No strings attached. No involvement.
