We’ve had our new Western Star with 133” sleeper for a week now and here are my thoughts
- drives solidly, I don’t know how to articulate that better but this truck just feels stable in its lane and nothing will push it around.
- love the power of the D15 engine
- layout of the switches on the dash iis a plus
- Having a shower and toilet on board is a time saver.
- Afew inches means a lot, we gained 5 inches in width of mattress and it is crazy what a difference it makes
- I WANT MY VOLVO POWER OUTLETS BACK! WS has 1/3 of the outlets
- The sun visor is no better than my 72 Pinto, come on WS! VOLVO has a great system that blocks the side and front without constantly rotating the large visor and still has gaps in coverage

For those who want them in the WS, I buy the Volvo side visor and it is installed, I even have a small version in my beater pickup. I don’t know what changes the dealer makes to fit it but it looks good.
Nahbrown Thanks this. -
Man, I love that visor in Volvos. Not sure how I could live without it.
Vander Haags has plenty of those visors, probably a lot cheaper than the dealer:

How big are the tanks on this truck? I mean fresh, gray and black. Also, are they heated?Last edited: Nov 13, 2025

Is this your first time with an ARI sleeper?
Big Road Skateboard and Oxbow Thank this. -
How do you provide water for those, and clean out the toilet and dirty shower water?
Is the shower water nice and hot with plenty of pressure? -
The fresh is two 30 gallon tanks, no grey, so be careful where you shower
The black tank is a rolling 5 gallon cartridge tank. There is a 6 gallon water heater.
oh yeah, and we feel quite comfortable. The 279” wheel base isn’t too bad at all
There is a Water pressure pump and the pressure is ok, the shower and sink empty directly to the ground
Black water tank for the toilet is a 5 gallon cartridge on wheels with a handle to pull it like luggage. There’s an exterior door so you open up to have access to pull the cartridge out and empty it. I’ve done it twice. It’s not a big deal.blairandgretchen, hope not dumb twucker, rluky13 and 2 others Thank this. -
I'm glad they are using cassette toilets in these things. That's what the RV industry calls them. Makes it easy to take the cartridge into any rest area restroom and dump it. I hate doing that but it's a lot better than finding an RV dump these days.
No gray? That's weird. That's actually the way I've set up lots of campers I've built but I'm usually off the grid in them. I figured EPA would keep a company like ARI from getting away with that. Enjoy it though. It's just dirty water. I dump gray on the ground all the time unless I'm in bear country (in an RV course).blairandgretchen, hope not dumb twucker and Nahbrown Thank this. -
I am curious, what is the light weight of your tractor?rluky13, Oxbow and BoostedTeg Thank this.

We scaled at 24250. Unfortunately our 53’ flatbed is steel and has a conestoga so we are 42000 empty. Our average Military load is 15k and we have only seen one load in the last 1.5years over 38k. We may miss a few loads due to weight but not many.blairandgretchen, FullMetalJacket and Oxbow Thank this. -
